The International Toy Research Association (ITRA), founded in 1993, is devoted to the scientific study of toys in all their facets. ITRA brings together toy researchers from all corners of the globe (see www.toyresearch.org for further information on ITRA). This is our 5th International Congress to discuss research, collaborate on international projects, and exchange information with other researchers, students, and leaders in the toy industry. More than 100 delegates from 17 countries attended our previous meeting in Alicante, Spain. The Nafplion meeting will exceed that number.

The Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation “V. Papantoniou” (PFF) was founded by Ioanna Papantoniou in 1974. It is a privately supported foundation based in Nafplion and it aims at research, preservation, study and presentation of the material culture of Greece, especially of the region of the Peloponnese. The Folklore Museum of the Foundation received the European Museum of the Year Award in 1981. The PFF publishes records of Greek folk music, books on Greek folk culture and the scientific journal Ethnographica. In 1989 the PFF created “Stathmos”, a multipurpose children’s centre housing part of its toy and children’s culture collections (see www.pli.gr for further information).

The Department for Theatre Studies was founded in 2003 in Nafplion Greece as part of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of the Peloponnese (see www.uop.gr). It aims to cultivate and promote the performing arts (dance, theatre and film studies) through academic and applied research and to provide its 252 students with the knowledge needed for their scientific, artistic and professional development. To this end, the Department organizes lectures, exhibitions and many events dealing with dance, theatre and film. Moreover it participates in the ERASMUS programme for Education in Europe.

Conference ThemeThe overarching theme of the conference is the relationship between toys and culture. All play media and play instruments are included in the concept of “toys” ranging from playgrounds and playscapes to electronic devices. A broad scope of approaches has been encouraged from the technological and social sciences and the humanities.

Η International Toy Research Association (ITRA) ιδρύθηκε το 1993 με σκοπό την επιστημονική μελέτη όλων των όψεων των αθυρμάτων. Η ITRA συγκεντρώνει ερευνητές και ερευνήτριες από όλο τον κόσμο (βλ. www.toyresearch.org για περισσότερες πληροφορίες). Το Συνέδριο που διοργανώνεται στη χώρα μας είναι το 5ο Διεθνές Συνέδριο, στο οποίο θα ανακοινωθούν νέες έρευνες, θα υλοποιηθούν διεπιστημονικές συνεργασίες σε διεθνή προγράμματα και θα πραγματοποιηθεί ανταλλαγή πληροφοριών και δεδομένων ανάμεσα σε επιστήμονες και ερευνητές/τριες από τον ακαδημαϊκό χώρο, από μουσεία και άλλα ερευνητικά κέντρα, καθώς και από το χώρο του βιομηχανικού σχεδιασμού και της παραγωγής παιχνιδιών. Περισσότεροι από 100 σύνεδροι από 17 διαφορετικές χώρες συμμετείχαν στις εργασίες του προηγούμενου Συνεδρίου στο Αλικάντε της Ισπανίας. Στο Συνέδριο που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Ναύπλιο θα υπάρχει ακόμη μεγαλύτερη συμμετοχή.

Το Πελοποννησιακό Λαογραφικό Ίδρυμα «Β. Παπαντωνίου» (ΠΛΙ) ιδρύθηκε το 1974 από την Ιωάννα Παπαντωνίου με στόχο την έρευνα, διάσωση, μελέτη και προβολή του υλικού πολιτισμού της νεότερης Ελλάδας και ιδιαίτερα της Πελοποννήσου. Το ΠΛΙ είναι Κοινωφελές Ίδρυμα Ιδιωτικού Δικαίου με έδρα το Ναύπλιο. Το Λαογραφικό Μουσείο του Ιδρύματος τιμήθηκε το 1981 με το European Museum of the Year Award. Το ΠΛΙ εκδίδει βιβλία, κάρτες , ημερολόγια και αφίσες, καθώς και το επιστημονικό περιοδικό Εθνογραφικά. Στην εκδοτική του δραστηριότητα περιλαμβάνεται και η παραγωγή δίσκων ελληνικής παραδοσιακής μουσικής. Το 1989 το ΠΛΙ δημιούργησε τον Σταθμό, ένα χώρο για παιδιά με πολλαπλές λειτουργίες, όπου παρουσιάζεται ένα τμήμα των συλλογών του για το παιδί: σχολικά και τελετουργικά αντικείμενα , φιγούρες κουκλοθέατρου και Καραγκιόζη, παιχνίδια (βλ. www . pli . gr για περισσότερες πληροφορίες).

Το Τμήμα Θεατρικών Σπουδών (βλ. www . uop . gr ) ιδρύθηκε το 2003 στο Ναύπλιο. Ανήκει στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών του Πανεπιστημίου Πελοποννήσου, με στόχο την καλλιέργεια και προώθηση των τεχνών των θεαμάτων (performing arts), και ειδικότερα του θεάτρου, του χορού, του κινηματογράφου και της τηλεόρασης, μέσα από την ακαδημαϊκή και εφαρμοσμένη έρευνα. Κύρια επιδίωξη του Τμήματος είναι ο συνδυασμός θεωρητικής και πρακτικής κατάρτισης των 252 σπουδαστών του και η παροχή των απαραίτητων συνθετικών γνώσεων για την επαγγελματική, καλλιτεχνική και επιστημονική τους εξέλιξη. Για το σκοπό αυτό το Τμήμα διοργανώνει διαλέξεις, εκθέσεις και πολλές εκδηλώσεις με άξονα το χορό, το θέατρο και τον κινηματογράφο. Το Τμήμα επιπλέον, συμμετέχει στο Πρόγραμμα ERASMUS για την Εκπαίδευση στην Ευρώπη.

Θεματικός άξονας του ΣυνεδρίουΤο κύριο θέμα του Συνεδρίου είναι η σχέση ανάμεσα στα αθύρματα, τα υλικά μέσα ή τα όργανα του παιχνιδιού και τον πολιτισμό. Στην έννοια του μέσου του παιχνιδιού ή του αθύρματος συμπεριλαμβάνονται οι χώροι του παιχνιδιού καθώς και τα ηλεκτρονικά παιχνίδια Οι εισηγήσεις και τα συμπόσια καλούνται να καλύψουν ένα μεγάλο εύρος προσεγγίσεων από το χώρο των κοινωνικών, ανθρωπιστικών και θετικών επιστημών καθώς από το χώρο της τεχνολογίας και του βιομηχανικού σχεδιασμού.

α) Πανηγύρι–Λούνα Παρκ, Κτίριο Βουλευτικού, ΙσόγειοΤο Τμήμα Παιχνιδιών και Παιδικής Ηλικίας (ΤΠΠΗ) του Μουσείου Μπενάκη, θα παρουσιάσει την έκθεση «Πανηγύρι-Λούνα-Πάρκ», μια αναπαράσταση ελληνικού πανηγυριού των αρχών του 20ου αιώνα.

b) Moroccan Children’s toys seen through the eyes of Nafpliote Children. Museum of Childhood “Stathmos”, Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation, National Railway Station Park. An exhibition portraying representations of Moroccan children’s toys created by the Nafpliote children participating in the Educational programme on play among the Anti-Atlas Mountain children in Southern Morocco.
