Rubber Modelling Tips.
If strain gradients and element distortions remain small,
second-order elements are preferred. If strain gradients are
large and element distortions become severe, first-order
elements are recommended.
Hybrid elements must be used for fully incompressible
hyperelasticity.
For nearly incompressible hyperelasticity, hybrid elements may
be needed but are not required. They are strongly
recommended if second-order elements are used. Exception:
C3D10M elements.

Rubber Modelling Tips (continued).
Incompatible mode elements work well with hyperelastic
materials up to moderate strains.
o They should not be used in this case for large strains
(> 100%), especially if the material is loaded in compression
Invoke the enhanced hourglass control when first-order,
reduced-integration elements are used.
In mesh generation try to anticipate the distortion in the layout
of the mesh.
Always check the stability range of the material. Add
*PREPRINT,MODEL=YES to get extra information.

General Contact.
Allows you to define contact
between many or all regions of a
model with a single interaction.
The method is geared toward
models with multiple components
and complex topology
Greater ease in defining contact
model compared to contact pairs.
Available in both
Abaqus/Standard and
Abaqus/Explicit
One contact domain in general contact
Multiple contact pairs required

Nonlinear Penalty-Based Contact.
Advantages: o Improved convergence rates
o Better equation solver performance
o Good treatment of overlapping
constraints
Disadvantages: o Small amount of penetration
o May need to adjust penalty
stiffness relative to default
setting in some cases
Comparison of linear and nonlinear
pressure-overclosure relationships
with default settings
