Fast of Kirkwood High School, Kirkwood, Mo., will receive the 1974 Midwest Regional James Bry- ant Conant Award in High School Chemistry Teaching. The regional award, presented to an outstanding high school teacher in each of the ACS regions, will be presented to Dr. Fast at the Midwest Regional Meeting in Iowa City in November. A husband and wife team of research- ers, Wolfgang and Heidemarie Glas- ser, and an industry scientist, Allen Rosen, have won the American Paper Institute's 1974 George Olmsted Award. The award is given annually to honor and encourage original and out- standing paper industry related re- search by young scientists and engi- neers, whether in universities or indus- try. Dr. Glasser is assistant professor of wood chemistry at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg; Mrs. Glasser is a program- mer on a part-time basis. Mr. Rosen is a chemical process section leader with Union Camp Corp., in Princeton, N.J. I. D. Hall, professor of chemistry at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, has received the Jacob Biely Faculty Research Prize for dis- tinguished research carried out and published over the last five years. The $1000 award is given annually by the university. People Awards Dr. Kenneth V. Fast of Kirkwood High School, Kirkwood, Mo., will receive the 1974 Midwest Regional James Bry­ant Conant Award in High School Chemistry Teaching.
