Reactions 1321 - 2 Oct 2010 Interferon-α Fatigue, anorexia, anxiety and depression: case report A 57-year-old man, who had a history of diabetes mellitus, developed fatigue, anorexia, anxiety and depression following treatment with interferon-α for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The man began treatment in April 2007 with IM natural human interferon-α [Sumiferon] 3 × 10 6 IU three times weekly for bulky lung metastases. The day after each injection, he developed a fever. After seven injections, his dose was increased to 6 × 10 6 IU and maintained for five injections. Soon after, he presented with general fatigue, anorexia, a high level of anxiety and depression. Interferon-α was discontinued. Two weeks later, the man’s mental status normalised and he was maintained on 6 × 10 6 IU once a week. Interferon-α was withheld in April 2009 after 88 administrations due to worsening of his diabetes. He remained in complete remission 14 months after stopping interferon-α. Orikasa S, et al. A 57-year-old man, who had a history of diabetesmellitus, developed fatigue, anorexia, anxiety anddepression following treatment with interferon-α formetastatic renal cell carcinoma.
The man began treatment in April 2007 with IM naturalhuman interferon-α [Sumiferon] 3 × 106IU three timesweekly for bulky lung metastases. The day after eachinjection, he developed a fever.
