Administrative Announcements ContinuedPSAT AND PSAT/NMSQTAll ninth graders will be taking the PSAT on October 12 and all tenth and eleventh graders will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT on October 19. All exams have proctored pre-assessment sections that students must complete: - 9th grade: September 28- 10th grade, last names A-M: October 4; last names N-Z: October 6- 11th grade: October 11The pre-assessment sections will take place at 2pm in room 306. All exams will take place at 7:35am in the gym and willlast approximately 3.5 hours. All students will need two #2 pencils, an eraser, and an approved calculator. No personalbelongings will be allowed in the testing center, including water bottles. The NMSQT is the qualifying exam for theNational Merit Scholarship; only the eleventh graders are eligible to participate. We ask all of our students in grades 9-11to take the PSAT so they can become aware of their strengths and weaknesses on the exam. Please email Mr. Carpine [email protected] if you have questions.

Congratulations to the Chess Hoplites who received awards on Saturday, September 17 at the first Battle of the Boards Chess Tournament hosted at RCS. Damian & Daniel Yanez took first and second place respectively in the <1000 section. In the >1000 section, Sami al-Adsani took 2nd place, Aiden Sirotkine and Ryan Mantey tied for 3rd, with Aiden taking home the trophy on tie breaks. Other Hoplite participants were Kylan Jin, Isaac Mount, Sabin Yanez, William Daigneault and Iris Mount.

School pictures may be ordered through September 30 by calling Studio 5 at 970-674-0520. Order forms are available at the front desk with school picture package information. Any order placed after September 30 will be charged a late fee by Studio 5. Picture retakes are on October 21 for students who were absent on picture day or who want a new picture.

Upcoming volunteer opportunities include the Scholastic Book Fair until September 28 (sign up at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090e49a4a62cabf58-scholastic) and First Responders’ Day on October 5 (sign up at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090e49a4a62cabf58-first). We are still in need of a CVC for the following classes or departments: High School, Art Department, Volunteer Support, and All-School Events. The 5th Graders Ski Free Passport Program is back! Parents of 5th graders who are interested in enrolling a student in the ski program can stop by the front desk and pick up a brochure for more information.

The Colorado Ski Country USA 6th Grade Passport Program provides four days of skiing or snowboarding at 20 participating Colorado resorts. Parents can apply online at www.coloradoski.com/passport.

Miscellaneous Welcome to all of our new 100 Mile Club members! We have had a great start to the year. We ran 158 miles as a team the first week. Kara Lubin, founder of 100 Mile Club, has asked if we would represent the 100 Mile Club in Fort Collins for a very special event. Pete Kostelnick, an ultrarunner, is running from San Francisco to New York City in an attempt to break the current Guinness World Record for the fastest man to run across the country. There are five voting positions on the RCS Board of Directors. Seat E is up for election this year. TheBoard Elections/Annual Meeting will be held on May 5, 2017. Candidates for the Board must meet thefollowing criteria per Policy G-1.05 in the Ridgeview Classical Schools Handbook:

Be a parent in good standing with the school for three or more years prior to running or beingconsidered for appointment; Have discussions with the Principal and all currently seated board members prior to declaringtheir intentions to the Election committee;Attend three full Board meetings within the current academic year;Read the *Ridgeview Reader and arrange a time to discuss the reading with the Principal and/orPresident of the Board;Visit at least one class in each of the three schools (elementary, intermediate and high school)within the current academic year and submit observation reports to the Principal for each classvisited;Possess an ongoing commitment to volunteering in the school an average of four hours permonth, excluding transportation, for the current academic year; and, Embrace the ideals of a classical education.A person whose term has expired is permitted to run for the office he has vacated, subject toapplicable laws governing the length of a member's term of office.
