FACULTY PROFILE Name : Humaira Farooqi Designation : Assistant Professor Department : Biotechnology Faculty : Science E-mail : [email protected] Phone : 26059688 Ext: 5504 Area of specialization : Protein Biochemistry and Stress Biology. Current Research Stress Biology : Our current study focuses on the hepatoprotective effect of Genistein and GPLC on the oxidative liver damage induced by D-GalN. We employ animal models for our study and the study evaluates the antioxidant and hepatoprotective effect in-vivo. The oxidative damage is induced by using a potent hepato-toxin: D-GalN, known for causing damage that closely resembles viral hepatitis. So far, we have evaluated the hepatoprotective and antioxidant effect of Genistein and GPLC in which we monitored the effect of these two protective compounds at tissue as well. Oxidative stress is one of the leading health problems faced by the population worldwide. The consequences range from mild inflammatory reactions to the cellular and tissue changes that lead to the transformation of normal cells into the malignant ones. Till date there has not been any treatment or therapy that could combat efficiently with oxidative stress. Protein Folding: Protein Stability determination/Mechanism of Protein stabilization. The targets of oxidative damage are vital biomolecules which contribute to the proper functioning state of a cell and tissue at molecular level. We are working on the conformational changes in proteins exposed to different stress conditions in vitro, evaluating its mechanism using Circular dichorism and in-silico study. Selected Publications:

Current Research

Stress Biology : Our current study focuses on the hepatoprotective effect of Genistein and GPLC on the oxidative liver damage induced by D-GalN.
