Grow your own plantsYou can grow your own plants by using these methods:1. Cuttings

• Choose fresh, strong stems for cuttings. • Cut the bottom section of the stem. • Dip into root hormone. • Set cuttings in sterile potting soil and keep in shade. • Water well and wait a few weeks • Pull out gently to see if roots have formed if not wait a few more weeks.2. Layering

Layering is the development of roots on a stem that is still on a parent plant. • Choose a long and strong branch. • Bend the shoots into the ground • Cover with soil and set in place with a wire. • When roots appear remove young plant and grow in good soil3. Grafting

• Grafting is joining together parts of two different plants , so they unite and continue growth as one plant. • The process of grafting involves putting a piece of the desired plant on a section of the parent plant . This process is complicated because it involves the growth of two plant tissues together. • Cover all cut surfaces with tape or hot grafting wax to prevent drying out.4. Division:

Division is one of the simplest methods of propagation. It can done with many plants including e.g Jasmine, and bulbs, Rhizomes .. • Dig the plant out and cut them into sections. • Grow the sections separately in pots or in the ground with a good soil

10 Benefits of Basil leaves Basil (Ocimum basilicum), is a herb belonging to the mint family Lamiaceae. Different varieties of basil are available with green, purple or variegated leaves. The leaves of this miraculous herb are considered as an herbal remedy for common health problems such as:1) Treatment of Common Cold and Cough: Chewing fresh leaves or drinking a tea of dried basil leaves can calm coughing and relieve cold and flu. 2) Heal Stings and Bites: applying the juice of basil leaves on the area stung or bitten by an insect will help relieve the pain as well as draw the venom out.3) Relieve Stress: Basil leaves are considered as an anti-stress agent. Basil leaves can purify your blood, prevent stress and develop a sharp mind.4) Beneficial in Cancer: research showed that basil contains many compounds that can prevent cancer.5) Aid in Weight Loss: Basil leaves help in reducing excess weight and fight laziness by renewing your energy.6) Dental Health: The anti-bacterial agents in basil leaves prevent bacteria build up whereas the antioxidants ensure clean plaque free teeth. 7) Relief from Headache: A facial steam of dried basil leaves is effective in alleviating a headache. 8) Good for the Heart: Basil leaves contain an antioxidant that helps in reducing cholesterol levels and blood glucose levels, thereby reducing the risk of heart attacks and other cardiac diseases.9) Prevention of Hair Loss: Applying basil oil on your scalp will keep your scalp cool, reduce itchiness and promote hair growth by improving circulation in your scalp.10) Helpful in Quitting Smoking: Chain smokers can try chewing basil leaves to get rid of their addiction. This can be more beneficial than nicotine patches, flavored gum or even plain candy to curb the urge. While the juice has a cooling effect on your throat, the chewing will distract you and the antioxidants will repair the damage caused due to years of smoking.

Bonsai TechniqueWhat is Bonsai? There are little hobbies that give us a feeling of happiness, relaxation and calm and one of these is bonsai plant cultivation. The problem with this technique is the more you know about it the more you will feel that you still do not know anything!.There is no limit to how far you can develop and learn about the many varieties of plants suitable for the Bonsai technique. There are schools and clubs for teaching bonsai techniques which goes back many centuries, and there are different level of technique.Bonsai cultivation has many techniques. What is successful for a person in a city somewhere in the world might not be successful of another person in a city somewhere else in the world. I wish we could be like a piece of sponge and absorb all what we need to learn and apply what is successful for us in our particular country . This will require perseverance to keep learning the many joys of the Bonsai technique

What is hydroponics Hydroponics is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions in water without soil. One of the first experiments in water culture was made by Woodward in England in 1699 since then it has been developed into modern agriculture technology. Requirements for plant growth in soil culture and soilless culture are the same. The only difference between the two methods is that the manner in which nutrients are supplied to the growth of the plant.

Why hydroponics? You can grow more food in less space. Control and monitor what you grow, eat fresh and tastier vegetables, salads etc

What can you grow: almost all types of vegetables e.g. Lettuce (all varieties), Tomatoes (all varieties), Herbs, Strawberries, Broccoli, cucumber, capsicum, chilies, some types of flowers also can been grown using hydroponics method.

Art of designing a GardenGarden design is the art of decorating land and colouring it with plants which can have many environmental , artistic and economic benefits, in addition to the planning functions.

Garden design is based on a knowledge of plants used in terms of shape, colour and final size and the knowledge of the necessary service and needs of plants such as irrigation , lighting, fertilisation ... etc.

It depends on the individual taste of the garden designer as to which plants to use in combination, taking into account the location, size and type of garden and which sections to include. Careful consideration is necessary not only of the users of that garden but also the nature of the land and the availability of water etc .

The final aim is to convert a piece of land to into a wonderful garden full of vitality and beauty to be enjoyed by visitors, and ensuring preservation and sustainability by others.
