Light yellow powder 1.42 @ 25° G Not more than 1°>o. Not more than 0 .5% Soluble in acetone, alcohol, benzene,

chloroform and dilute caustic.

Two grades available, one assaying at least 9 7 % , melting point at least 175° C , and another assaying at least 9 4 % , melting point at least 170° C.

RKACTIONS . . · Oxidation: Using peroxide, chlorine, persulfate or hypochlorite gives 2,2'dithio-bis-benzothiazole. Under strongly alkaline conditions the sulfonate is formed which on acidification yields 2-hydroxy benzothiazole.

Organic salts are formed by reaction with strong organic bases. Alkali metal salts are formed by reacting in aqueous medium. Heavy metal salts are formed by double decomposition of the alkali

metal salts and soluble salts of heavy metals. Formaldehyde forms 2(hydroxy methyl mercapto)benzothiazole. Alkyl halides react to form alkyl thio ethers. Aroyl halides react to form thiol esters.

LECTRODRYER* A MACHINE fl/f{/0

STANDS FOR

A SERVICE

Moisture is giving you trouble. You determine that DRYing the air, gas or organic liquid involved will cure it. Right then's the time to call in a Lectrodryer representative; don't wait until the requisition for a machine is written.

DRYing engineering, as practiced by Lectrodryer, goes into action immediately after moisture is recognized as the culprit. Our men help select the type and size of DRYing machine that's needed, what controls and other accessories are needed, and the most efficient layout. They see that the equipment works, and continues to work, smoothly and efficiently in your plant.

Lectrodryer's recommendations are based on many years of experience with DRYing work in hundreds of plants, in dozens of industries, all over the world. That's why so little service is required to keep Lectrodryers operating at their original high efficiency.

For help on your DRYing problems, write Pittsburgh Lectrodryer Corporation, 305 32nd Street, Pittsburgh 30, Pennsylvania.

How can G-E Silicones help you? More manufacturers are finding that General Electric silicones can cut their production costs or improve the characteristics of their products.

Here are a few applications of these chemically-inert, heat- and cold-resistant materials: silicone rubber for gaskets and insulation; silicone oils for mold lubricants, hydraulic systems; silicone dielectric compounds ; silicone resins

for high-temperature electrical insulation and industrial finishes; s i l icone water repe l l ents (DRI-FILM); silicone gums and compounds for rubber manufacturers.
