Ventilation
Ventilation is the process of replacing waste air in any indoor space to provide high air quality for occupants comfort and
wellbeing.

BenefitsAir quality
- bacteria and fungi
Reduction of air pollution due to high concentration of:
- chemical substances (radon, smoke, carbone monoxide and dioxide, volatile organic compounds)
- humidity and smelles
Low energy consumption
- ventilation heat losses reductione- wellbeing of walls and structures protected from indoor humidity
The correct ventilations rate ensure:
Indoor comfortControllo delle condizioni microclimatiche rispetto a:
- air temperature
- air humidity
- air movements and speed

Natural ventilation
The ventilation flow rates are not constant but depending on external conditions
In natural ventilation external air flows to an indoor space as a result of pressure difference due to- wind- temperature differences

Natural ventilation
- NATURAL VENTILATION is based only on userʼs sansations about indoor air quality. External air flows throught windows and doors opened by the users.
- NATURAL CONTROLLED VENTILATION is based on userʼs or mechanical operations according to fixed and controlled criteria

Natural ventilation
Advantages: - no fan and no energy consumption- little investment
Mecchanical ventilation heat recovery
Drawbacks: - bad control of air change- noises coming from the openings- people feeling cold flows near the openings

Mechanical ventilation
In this case, the new air is introduced naturally in the spaces thanks to adjustable air-vents situated on the outside walls.
On the other hand, foul air is extracted mechanically (fans). With this extraction, the spaces are on depression and this favours the infiltration of new air.

Mechanical ventilation
Simple flow ventilation
Advantages: - symple system and easy to use- extracted air debits are controlled- no ventilation network is nedeed
Drawbacks: - air-vents are source of noises- risk of cold air flow due to air-vents badly set- no heat recovery

Mechanical ventilation
Double flow ventilation
New air filtered and preheated in winter is mechanically distribuited by a ductwork.
Air is mechanically extracted by another ductwork
The heart of the system is a heat exchanger witch ensures the
thermal energy recovery from extracted air.

The heart of the system: the air to air heat exchanger
The counter flow energy recovery heat exchanger recovers waste heat from
extracted air
Heat recovery
In the countercurrent exchanger two air rates flow in opposite directions to each other: the maximum amount of heat that can
be obtained is higher than with other exchangers.

Ventilation flow rates
Ventilation debits are calculated in accordance with:
- European and national standards about energy efficiency
- European and national standards about indoor air quality
- local hygienic reccomendations
Indoor air quality is ensured by the frequency of turnover of interior air by replacement with outside air.
The number of changes per hour depends on the type of spaces (residential building, office, school ecc.)
For residential applications the frequency is about 0,5-0,7 changes per hour.
