Why My Back hurts while driving?
Driving for long or regular intervals often creates
strain on your vertebrae and discs. Regular driving
creates a different kind of lumber curve which gives
spine different kinds of vibrations and jolts.
Nowadays cars have a lower roof line which bounds
the driver to lower the seat resulting in tipped back
putting strain on the hamstrings and pulling their
pelvic attachments. This posture if remains frequent
for prolonged seasons results in muscle stiffening,
spasm and back pain.
Along with back pain many people also suffer from
the neck and shoulder pain. This happens because of
tensioning the neck and shoulders while gripping
the steering wheel too tightly.
Remedy from back pain arousing out of driving, can
be eradicated by simply being in the correct postures
while driving. During long journeys stop regularly,
get out of the car and move around. Exercising
regularly also helps in releasing the strain from
different joints in the body. Car makers are striving
hard to build cars keeping in mind the ergonomic
conditions, but till that time it is up to the individual
to adopt correct postures and regular exercise to
prevent back pain.
In case the Problem still persists and Physical
Exercising does not help, then one must consult an
Orthopedics for advice and screening of the
problem.

5 Questions…… With Dr. Sumeet Sethi
Doctor Sumeet Sethi is a Senior Cardiologist practicing in Delhi & Gurgaon. He is a renowned cardiologist
specializing in all kinds of Interventional cardiac procedures. In today’s session of #5Questions, we will be talking
about High Blood Pressure and its associated risks. Please bear in mind that these questions are generic in nature and the information provided is not to be taken as medical advice and is not intended as a
substitute for, nor does it replace, professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Healthoncall: What is high blood pressure and what are the causes of it?
Dr. Sumeet Sethi(Cardiologist): High Blood pressure is the amount of force exerted against the walls of
the arteries as blood flows through them. When the heart contracts and pushes blood into the vessels, blood
pressure rises. It lowers when the heart relaxes, but there’s always a certain amount of pressure in the arteries.
Blood pressure changes from minute to minute and is affected by activity and rest, body temperature, diet,
emotional state, posture, and medications. Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and is
recorded as two figures:
Systolic pressure – the pressure of the blood when your heart beats to pump blood out
Diastolic pressure – the pressure of the blood when your heart rests in between beats, which reflects how
strongly your arteries are resisting blood flow
For example, your blood pressure is “140 over 90”, or 140/90mmHg, it means you have a systolic pressure of
140mmHg and a diastolic pressure of 90mmHg. If a person has high blood pressure it means that the walls of the
arteries are receiving too much pressure repeatedly. High blood pressure (hypertension) is a risk factor that can
increase your chance of developing heart disease, a stroke, and other serious conditions, the higher the blood
pressure, the greater the risk. You are at a higher risk if:
you eat too much salt;
you don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables;
you are not active enough;
you are overweight; or
you drink too much alcohol
Age: as you get older, the effects of an unhealthy lifestyle can build up and your blood pressure can increase.
Family history: you are at greater risk if other
members of your family have, or have had, high
blood pressure.
Obesity/overweight – overweight refers to
having extra body weight from muscle, bone, fat
and/or water. Both overweight and obese people
are more likely to develop high blood pressure,
compared to people of normal weight.
Diabetes – people with diabetes are at a higher
risk of developing hypertension.
Healthoncall: what are the consequences of not
controlling my blood pressure?
Dr. Sumeet Sethi(Cardiologist): High blood
pressure is a leading cause of heart attack, stroke,
heart failure, and kidney disease, so it’s a serious condition that we all must be more conscious of as we age. High
blood pressure can become difficult to control over time resulting in need for more medication. It is not
uncommon to be prescribed 3-4 medications to control high blood pressure. However, many factors may play a
role in blood pressure control. A diet low in salt and adherence to medication regimen prescribed by your doctor
is very important in controlling blood pressure. Unhealthy lifestyle practices may play a major role in
uncontrolled high blood pressure. Smoking, obesity, high cholesterol, and lack of exercise may contribute to
uncontrolled blood pressure.

Healthoncall: What is a heart attack?
Dr. Sumeet Sethi(Cardiologist): A heart attack is a
medical emergency that occurs when blood supply
to part of the heart is suddenly cut off. The heart
muscles are supplied by the coronary arteries, which
branch off from a major artery called the aorta. Heart
attack occurs when one or more of the coronary
arteries become blocked. Our heart muscle needs
oxygen to survive. A heart attack occurs when the
blood flow that brings oxygen to the heart muscle is
severely reduced or cut off completely. This happens
because coronary arteries that supply the heart
muscle with blood flow can slowly become narrow
from a buildup of fat, cholesterol and other
substances that together are called plaque. When a
plaque in a heart artery breaks, a blood clot forms
around the plaque. This blood clot can block the
blood flow through the heart muscle. When the
heart muscle is starved for oxygen and nutrients, it
is called ischemia. When damage or death of part of
the heart muscle occurs as a result of ischemia, it is
called a heart attack or myocardial infarction (MI).
Healthoncall: What are the symptoms of a heart
attack?
Dr. Sumeet Sethi(Cardiologist): The most common
warning symptoms of a heart attack for both men
and women are:
Chest pain or discomfort– The chest may feel tight,
and heavy as if it is being squeeze. Most heart
attacks involve discomfort in the center or left side
of the chest. It can feel like pressure, squeezing,
fullness, or pain. It also can feel like heartburn or
indigestion. The feeling can be mild or severe.
Upper body discomfort– You may feel pain or
discomfort in one or both arms, the back, shoulders,
neck, jaw, or upper part of the stomach (above the
belly button).
Shortness of breath– This may be your only
symptom, or it may occur before or along with chest
pain or discomfort. It can occur when you are resting
or doing a little bit of physical activity.
Metabolic syndrome, which refers to the presence of
combined high blood cholesterol, diabetes, obesity
and high blood pressure. A person with metabolic
syndrome is twice as likely to develop heart disease
as a person without the syndrome.
Healthoncall: What can I do to lessen my risk of a
heart attack?
Dr. Sumeet Sethi(Cardiologist): You can avoid heart
problems in the future by adopting a healthy
lifestyle today. Here are four heart disease
prevention tips to get you started.
Don’t smoke or use tobacco– Smoking or using
tobacco of any kind is one of the most significant risk
factors for developing heart disease. Chemicals in
tobacco can damage your heart and blood vessels,
leading to narrowing of the arteries. Carbon
monoxide in cigarette smoke replaces some of the
oxygen in your blood. This increases your blood
pressure and heart rate by forcing your heart to
work harder to supply enough oxygen.
Exercise for 30 minutes on most days of the week–
Getting some regular, daily exercise can reduce your
risk of fatal heart disease. And when you combine
physical activity with other lifestyle measures, such
as maintaining a healthy weight, the payoff is even
greater. Physical activity helps you control your
weight and can reduce your chances of developing
other conditions that may put a strain on your heart,
such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and
diabetes. Try getting at least 30 to 60 minutes of
moderately intense physical activity most days of
the week.
Eat a heart-healthy diet– Eating a healthy diet can
reduce your risk of heart disease. A diet rich in fruits,
vegetables and whole grains can help protect your
heart. Beans, other low-fat sources of protein and
certain types of fish also can reduce your risk of
heart disease. Saturated fat and Trans fat are the
ones to try to limit or avoid. Major sources of
saturated fat include:
Red meat
Dairy products
Coconut and palm oils
Sources of Trans fat include: Deep-fried fast foods
Bakery products
Packaged snack foods
Margarines
Crackers
Get regular health screenings– High blood
pressure and high cholesterol can damage your
heart and blood vessels. But without testing for
them, you probably won’t know whether you
have these conditions. Regular screening can tell
you what your numbers are and whether you
need to take action.

Delhi – The new hub for Kidney Transplant
Kidneys are one of the most important organs of human
body. Kidneys are located near the middle of your back, just
above the hip bone. The kidneys remove wastes and extra
water from the blood to form urine. Urine flows from the
kidneys to the bladder through the ureters.
Every day, your kidneys process about 200 quarts
of blood to sift out about 2 quarts of waste products and
extra water. The waste and extra water become urine, which
flows to your bladder through tubes called ureters.
Your bladder stores urine until you urinate.
Kidney failure which can be acute or chronic, could make a
person completely dependent upon the process of dialysis to get the work done which is supposed to be done by the
kidneys.
In case the kidneys are failed completely, there is no cure for it unless you go for a kidney transplant. Kidney transplant is
done all over the world as a measure to help people who are diagnosed with the End Stage Renal disease. Most donated
kidneys come from deceased donors; however, the utilization of living donors in the world is on the rise. Usually a living
donor is someone who is a relative to the receiver. In India the first ever known human kidney transplant performed in
India was done at the King Edward Memorial Hospital at Bombay in May 1965.
Over the years with the major healthcare setups are being established in Delhi, it has become one of the preferred Kidney
transplant destinations in India. Most of the major Government and Private hospitals now have the license and capability
to perform a kidney transplant operation. Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Max Hospitals, Indraprastha Apollo, Fortis Hospitals
and BLK Hospital are some of the preferred destinations. Although the cost of the transplant surgery differs on the Hospital
Package, but most of all the medical insurance companies are providing covers for it. Every hospital has a separate division
to take care of the transplants as it requires a lot of legal status to be seen and screened and hence requires a very distinctive
approach towards it. The technology used in today’s time is the latest one can expect bases the cost of the procedure. In
terms of efficiency, Delhi has got all the necessary measures to be known for a preferred destination for kidney transplant
operations in India.
