Empordà oilThe oil of the Empordà is a quality oil made from autochthonous varieties such as the Argudell, Corivell or Verdal, and Arbequines. There is a long tradition of oil pro-duction in this area, where the Tramuntana wind makes it necessary to harvest the olives by hand when they are not yet fully ripe. The towns that are included in the protected designation of origin fall within the regions of the Alt Empordà and the Baix Empordà, in addition to some around Girona (Viladesens, Sant Jordi Desvalls, Flaçà, Madremanya and Llagostera) and the Pla de l’Estany (Crespià, Esponellà and Vilademuls).The oil of this protected designation of origin is fruity, aromatic and tends to swee-ten upon aging, with a spicy hint at the end of the palate. Virgin oils, which are very clear after filtering, have a maximum acidity of 0.8º.

‘Botifarra dolça’ (sweet pork sausage)This high calorie pork product is made all year round and is sold both raw and dry, as if it was a ‘fuet’. Its distinguishing feature is the addition of sugar to the in-gredients, giving it a very unique sweet taste.The ingredients used to make it are raw lean pork, sugar, lemon, salt and, if desired, cinnamon.Made primarily with lean pork, with a high content of iron and B vitamins Contains sugar. Within a balanced and varied diet consumption is fully advised occasionally.It is sold directly by the butchers who make it and can be bought in butchers and pork butchers throughout the year. ‘Codonyat’ (quince pre-serve)This product is an example of the ways in which quince is used in the mountains. The quince tree (Cydonia oblonga) is a relative of the apple and the pear and is native to Europe and parts of Asia. Quince preserve has a long shelf life and was traditionally made in the home.To make the preserve, traditionally from October

onwards when the fruits were harvested, pieces of peeled, sliced quinces are boiled in sugar and water.It is sold in airtight packets or jars in specialist and organic shops all over Catalonia.It is then eaten in sandwiches and with cheese, traditionally cheese, or accompanying fresh curds.

Wine DO EmpordàThe unique orography of the Empordà, covering both the coast and the mountains, and its Mediterranean climate, are what give rise to the character of the wines from this DO. There is a great deal of sunshine and also significant rainfall, and the acidic soil is ideal for producing quality wines. In order to avoid damage from the Tramuntana wind, the vines grow just a few centimetres from the ground.The rosé wines from this DO are made using the varieties Carignane, Garnatxa Negra and Lledoner, and are fruity, moderate and deep in flavour. The reds use grape varieties such as Garnatxa and Cabernet Sauvignon and are fruity and light. The whites are made with Macabeu, Xarel·lo, Chardonnay and Garnatxa Blanca and are fresh and deep in flavour. Garnatxa de l’Empordà, a sweet wine made from this white grape variety, and Moscatell are also made.They are distributed and sold all over Catalonia, particularly in wine shops in the Girona region.

Pals riceRice has been cultivated in Pals since the 15th century. In the late 18th century landowners tried to clamp down on rice cultivation in an attempt to eradicate the diseases that it entailed at the time. It was not until 1900 that permission was granted for it to be planted. The unique climate in the rice growing region of Pals gives rise to a high quality end product. It enables the grain to mature for longer than in areas

with a lower latitude, making it more resistant when cooked. Rice cultivation in Pals follows agro-environmental guidelines in order to make it compatible with bird protection and to minimise the impact of phytosanitary tre-atments, utilizing biological control techniques to protect the wildlife and aquatic organisms.The surface area used for cultivation spread over the following areas: Castelló d’Em-púries and Baix Empordà: including the municipalities of Pals, Torroella de Montgrí, Bellcaire d’Empordà, Palau-sator, Gualta and Fontanilles.

Pear tomatoA variety of tomato that is very popular eaten raw in salads due to its sweet taste. It is a large tomato with low acidity, that is spherical and flat in shape, with protuberances on the surface. Inside it is compact and has no seeds. It has a particularly sweet flavour.Sold in its natural form in gre-engrocers, particularly in the Empordà region.

PROPERTY OWNERS COMMUNITY: WHO IS PAYING FOR THE LIFT INSTALLATION?A Property Owners Community is the group of property owners of a same building and it is ruled by the Horizontal Property Law (“Ley de Propiedad Horizontal”), the Civil Catalan Code and the statutory articles agreed by the Community.

Although the majority of works to the building are an improvement to it, frequently the approval of the might cause a debate within the neighbor´s community because of the criteria settled to share the expenses and the substantial costs that they represent.

When a lift has to be placed, it requires the approval of 3/5 of the total of property owners that represent 3/5 of the participation shares, therefore the ground floor or the commercial premises at the bottom of the building are also included even when the lift placement might not be considered of any use for them (art. 17).

If the legal quorum is reached and the installation of the lift is approved, each property owner shall be obliged by law to pay, including those who vote against or the ground floor owners unless otherwise agreed by the Community. The main reason is that the installation of a lift is considered a general improvement that shall increase the value of the property as a whole according to the rule of art.9.1 of the Law.

It could be decided that the ground floor owners are exonerated of the maintenance costs payment but not of the installation expense. It should always be clear that the Law discriminates between the two different building work categories: (i) on the one hand, those works which maintain or increase the value of the building and therefore all property owners get a benefit proportional to their share; (ii) on the other hand, maintenance works. The first ones are of obliged payment by all the owners however the second ones might be waived.

Despite the aforementioned arguments, given the fact that the ground floor

and the commercial premises might represent a sufficient high share to block the 3/5 legal majority required to approve the installation, the Community may decide to give an exemption to those who shall not use the lift in exchange of their positive vote.

Another crucial aspect to consider when evaluating the necessary majorities for a lift placement is whether within the Community there´s a resident with a physical disability or above 70 years old. In these two cases an exception to the quorum rules above mentioned is applicable since the installation of a lift is considered to be necessary to eliminate architectonic barriers.Therefore with a simple majority of the total of the property owners that represent the majority of shares, the decision shall be valid and all property owners shall be in responsible for the costs.

Bear in mind that it is always important to be present at the neighbors’ meetings. In case you are a second homer living abroad or in any other case when it is not possible for you to attend personally the meeting, we advise you to delegate your vote because otherwise you might risk that decisions are taken in your absence and that your vote might be considered as positive even when you were not present unless you notify your disconformity in a written form within 30 days to the Community Secretary.

Catalan beaches awarded 87 blue flags for their water cleanliness, safety and environmental management

This summer, 87 beaches in Catalonia will display a blue flag for their overall quality, according to the Environmental and Consumer Education Association of Spain (ADEAC). Catalonia is, after Galicia and the Valencian Community (also called Valencian Country), the Autonomous Community with the highest number of blue flags. Beaches located along the southern Catalan coast, on the Costa Daurada or the Ebro Delta, received a total of 37 blue flags. Costa Brava beaches, in Catalonia’s northern coast, got 28 awards. Finally, beaches located in Barcelona or nearby, in Garraf and Maresme Counties, where Sitges and Malgrat de Mar are located respectively, received a total of 22 blue flags. In addition, Catalan marinas and ports received 24 blue flags, two more than in 2011. The blue flag is an ecological label for beaches and ports which comply with 32 criteria based on water cleanliness, safety and environmental management and education. They are awarded every year by the independent and non-profit Foundation for Environmental Education, in collaboration with the United Nations Agencies for the Environment and Tourism. Spain is the country in the world with the highest number of blue flags.

Catalonia will display this year a total of 87 blue flags, one more award than last year. Beaches in the provinces of Tarragona (Costa Daurada and Ebro Delta) and Girona (Costa Brava) maintain the number of flags, 37 and 28 respectively. Beaches in Barcelona received

one more flag this year, reaching a total number of 22. Regarding the 24 blue flags of Catalan marinas and ports, Girona keeps its 8 flags while Barcelona and Tarragona pass from 7 to 8 each.

The 28 Costa Brava beaches are: in Portbou, Platja Gran; in Llançà, Gifreu and Port de Llançà; Port de la Selva; Empuriabrava, in Castelló d’Empúries; in Torroella de Montgrí, Cala Montgó; in Palafrugell, Tamariu, Canadell and Llafranc; in Palamós, la Fosca; in Sant Antoni de Calonge, Es Monestrí, Torre Valentina, Sant Antoni and Cala Cristus- Ses Torretes; in Castell-Platja d’Aro, Cala Rovira, Platja d’Aro, and Sa Conca; in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Sant Feliu and Sant Pol; in Tossa de Mar, la Mar Menuda i Gran de Tossa; in Lloret de Mar, Lloret, Fenals, Sa Boadella and Santa Cristina; in Blanes, Blanes, Sabanell and Sant Francesc.

The blue flag criteria

The criteria for a blue flag to be awarded are 32, and they include: free access to the beach and it being managed as a public space, displaying clear and concise information, promoting health habits, being 100% in line with environmental and coastline legislation, having quality sand, clean water, and a lifeguard service with at least two people. This last element prevents paradise beaches from small villages to be included in the prestigious list, as they lack the money to hire two lifeguards

Greece’s crisis places Catalonia as the first European destination for Russian touristsCatalonia has become the top European destination for Russian tourists. Traditionally Greece was the main destination for Russian citizens on holidays; however, the economic and political crisis the Hellenic country is going through has placed Catalonia on top of the list of Russian tourist priorities. The Catalan Minister for Business and Employment, Francesc Xavier Mena, in charge of tourist policy, presented the data in Barcelona. According to Mena, this trend could also be repeated among tourists from other countries, such as Germany, although he admitted there is no concluding data on this last point. However, data clearly shows that Catalonia tops Russian holiday rankings.

During the first four months of the year, foreign tourism generated a €2.7 billion income in Catalonia, which represents a 15% increased compared to the same period last year.

In fact, Mena emphasised that Catalonia’s tourist strategy for the coming years is to attract tourists with greater purchase power from new emerging markets, with a high consumption potential, such as Russia

and China. Mena explained the efforts of the Catalan Government to increase international flight connections from Barcelona El Prat Airport, especially to America, the Middle-East, Eastern Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

The Greek caseAccording to Reuters, with data from the Greek Government, in 2011, Greece had a €10.5 billion income from foreign tourism, which represented a 10% increase compared to 2010, mainly due to the effects of the Arab Spring. However, this year they could lose 15% of their tourists.

NewsCatalan industry improved its competitiveness by 0.7% in the last quarter of 2011 Compared to the rest of industrialised countries, Catalonia’s industrial sector improved its competitiveness index by 0.7% between October and December 2011, compared to the same period in the previous year, according to the Catalan Statistics Institute (Idescat) and the Catalan Finance Ministry. Catalan industrial products have registered an improvement of their competitiveness in every geographic area of the world in the last quarter of 2011. Furthermore, since 2009 there has been a constant improvement of industrial price competitiveness in Catalonia.

The favourable evolution registered between October and December 2011 is mainly a consequence of the euro devaluation, contributing by 0.6% to the competitiveness improvement. In fact, Catalan export manufacturers have kept their prices constant.

Catalan industrial products gained competitiveness throughout the world. However, the component analysis shows different behaviour. In developed countries, where the competitiveness improvement has represented 0.7%, relative prices have been kept stable. However the nominal component, the component associated to the exchange rate, has dropped by 0.6%.

In the European Union (EU-27), the good behaviour of relative prices has brought a 0.4% competitiveness improvement for Catalan industry. In the new industrial countries in Asia, the 0.4% competitiveness improvement results from a combination of an increase of relative prices (0.9%) that was compensated by the euro depreciation (-1.4%). In those markets, Catalan manufacturers have increased relative prices, but buying euros to buy their products is cheaper.

Finally, regarding the Eurozone, relative prices of Catalan exports have improved by 0.1% over the last quarter of 2011. In this case, the euro exchange rate is not applicable since all countries share the same currency.

Les pro-corrida exigent une indemnisation de 500 millionsLe dossier de l’abolition de la corrida, approuvée en juillet 2010 par le Parle-ment de Catalogne, à Barcelone, n’est pas encore clos. En effet, le gouverne-ment catalan étudie actuellement une éventuelle compensation financière en vertu de cette interdiction, selon une révélation effectuée le 10 juin 2012 à Barcelone. Cette réparation est exigée depuis deux ans par plusieurs associa-tions tauromachies et par les proprié-taires des arènes La Monumental de Barcelone, désormais sans exploitation commerciale. Au niveau administratif, le gouvernement catalan a ouvert une «procédure de responsabilité», qui comporte des entretiens avec les pro-corrida, afin de déterminer si l’abolition constitue un «dommage». En février 2012, plusieurs associations et entre-prises, économiquement touchées par l’abolition, ont déposé auprès des auto-rités catalanes leur première «demande d’étude d’indemnisations». Toutefois, dans la mesure où la loi catalane prévoit une période de six mois pour toute négociation de compensations, un éven-tuel accord ne devrait intervenir qu’au mois de septembre voire bien plus tard, si la Generalitat de Catalogne joue la montre en sollicitant des informations complémentaires pour compléter le dos-sier des plaignants.

Selon une étude financée par plusieurs associations taurines espagnoles, la compensation envisagée peut représen-ter entre 300 et 500 millions d’euros.

Perpignan-Girona: des amendes sans frontières en 2013L’autoroute A9, en Roussillon, comporte l’étonnant radar routier des Cluses, qui a relevé 70.121 infractions en 2010, dont 70 % relatives à des véhicules étrangers.

Le rapprochement entre Perpignan et Figueres ou Girona profitera en 2013 d’une directive européenne instaurant des sanctions routières identiques pour l’ensemble des automobilistes européens, dans toute l’Union européenne. Sur ce principe, les français dont le véhicule sera flashé par un radar en territoire espagnol, et inversement, seront pénalisés. Jusqu’à présent, les intéressés n’étaient pas poursuivis car la procédure d’identification internationale était très coûteuse, malgré une proximité géographique accrue. Cette harmonisation des sanctions, qui mettra fin à l’impunité liée au statut étranger, concernera dès le 1er juillet 2012 les conducteurs belges circulant en France, et inversement. Déjà, en 2009, le principe d’un échange d’informations via le système « Eucaris » avait introduit les sanctions sans frontières envers les Français et les Suisses flashés ou verbalisés pour stationnement irrégulier dans les deux pays. Ce procédé pionnier, expérimenté dès 2005 entre la France et le Luxembourg, est engagé entre l’Italie, la France et l’Allemagne, avant son adoption générale, en 2013, dans tous les États de l’Union. Il est même possible que ce dispositif fonctionne fin 2012 entre la France

et l’Espagne par le biais d’un accord bilatéral, semblable à la procédure franco-belge. Techniquement, l’ensemble des agences nationales de traitement automatisé des infractions croisera ses fichiers et transmettra

les procès-verbaux directement aux conducteurs. La directive concernera huit infractions, dont le téléphone au volant, les excès de vitesse hors radars et les feux rouges grillés. Dans ce cadre, également en 2013, un permis de conduire européen, doté d’une puce électronique, permettra à toutes les polices européennes d’accéder aux données de tous les automobilistes européens.

L’ancienne division des territoires, relativisée

L’autoroute A9, en Roussillon, comporte l’étonnant radar routier des Cluses, qui a relevé 70.121 infractions en 2010, dont 70 % relatives à des véhicules étrangers. Implanté à 2 km de l’ancien passage frontalier du Perthus / La Jonquera, cet appareil ne profite pas des flux de circulation réels, car ses flashs concernent une manne de Catalans arrivant en Roussillon. Pareillement, la quinzaine de radars de la province de Girona, dont un stratégiquement présent entre les communes de Figueres et Llançà, dans un secteur à forte fréquentation française, représenteront en 2013 une vraie dissuasion pour les automobilistes nord-catalans. Pour l’heure, à la faveur de

l’ancienne division des territoires, ceux-ci échappent aux poursuites du Service Catalan de la Circulation. Passé ce schéma ancien, l’égalité face à la loi doit contribuer à l’effacement de la frontière.

Énième retard pour le TGV Perpignan-Barcelone: pas avant l’automne 2013Deux points noirs subsistent sur la Ligne à Grande Vitesse Perpignan-Barcelone, selon une information dévoilée le 12 mars : à cette date, le retard envisagé permettait d’espérer une ouverture de cette infrastructure début 2013. Mais il faudra attendre l’automne de cette même année, d’après les révélations effectuées le 11 avril par le gouvernement espagnol.

La mise en service de la Ligne à Grande Vitesse entre Perpignan et Barcelone constitue une arlésienne entamée depuis la décennie 1990. La dernière prise de retard sur le calendrier, révélée le 12 mars et liée au manquement de deux appels d’offres pour travaux, est en effet confirmée et étendue. La première réalisation manquante comporte le montage des rails et des dispositifs complémentaires sur 12,8 km, entre le centre d’aiguillage de Mollet del Vallès, au Nord de Barcelone, et la gare de La Sagrera, située dans cette dernière ville. La seconde concerne l’achèvement de la jonction TGV à l’intérieur de la gare de Girona. Le secrétaire délégué au Territoire et à la Mobilité du gouvernement catalan, Damià Calvet, a évoqué le prolongement du dernier contretemps, en annonçant une livraison de la ligne «au troisième trimestre» 2013, en raison d’un délai d’exécution incompressible de deux chantiers. Ces réalisations, d’un coût de 33 millions d’euros, sont en cours de validation

administrative entre la société publique espagnole Adif, délégataire, et le ministère espagnol des Travaux Publics. Mais l’accélération forcenée des travaux induits, brièvement envisagée par les décideurs politiques et économiques de la région de Girona, ne sera traduite par aucune réalité. La révélation de M. Calvet, qui ne constitue pas une réelle surprise dans ce dossier soumis à d’innombrables échéances aléatoires, a été effectuée lors d’une conférence prononcée à Girona dans le cadre de la fondation d’intérêt public Cercle d’Infrastructures. En réalité, l’information officielle sur ce retard a été discrètement délivrée dès le mercredi 11 avril à l’occasion de la dernière réunion de la Commission de Suivi des travaux relatifs au TGV en Catalogne.

Révolte populaire contre les péages des autoroutesVisible sans effort, la prostitution routière est florissante dans certaines régions de la Catalogne du Sud, dont la plaine de l’Empordà, de La Jonquera à La Bisbal, et au-delà. Pour mettre fin à ce phénomène, les autorités catalanes mettent en place le fichage des professionnelles et de leurs clients, qui encourent des amendes pouvant atteindre 30.000 euros.

A l’approche de la saison estivale, le Département de l’Intérieur du gouvernement catalan lance un fichier qui centralise les coordonnées des prostituées et de leurs clients verbalisés sur les routes sud-catalanes. La mise en oeuvre de ce système est contenue dans un décret publié le 29 mai 2012 par le Journal Officiel de la Generalitat de Catalunya, signé par le conseiller de l’Intérieur gouvernemental, Felip Puig. Ce procédé, en vigueur à compter du 6 juin, découle de l’approbation par le Parlement de Catalogne, fin 2011, de l’interdiction de l’exercice de la prostitution routière. La création de ce fichier est une étape supplémentaire à verser au compte de la politique développée par les autorités catalanes pour pénaliser les prostituées et leurs clients, par le biais du Service Catalan de la Circulation. Cependant, la prudence est exigée à cette branche de la police catalane, les Mossos d’Esquadra, en

vertu de la confidentialité des données, dont l’utilisation sera interne. Selon M. Puig, «le début de l’été est la période adéquate» pour lancer ce fichage, inscrit dans la nouvelle loi routière de la Generalitat. En termes concrets, ce texte indique que la présence de prostituées et de leurs clients aux bord des routes constitue une infraction grave, passible de sanctions pouvant s’élever à 30.000 euros. Dans ce cadre répressif, les agents de police devront tenir compte de critères précis, comme la dangerosité des routes et la récidive, de la part des professionnelles du sexe et des consommateurs. Cette mesure peut comporter des conséquences immédiates sur les routes du secteur de l’Empordà, au sein du triangle situé entre les villes de de La Jonquera, Figueres et La Bisbal, où est habituellement exercée la dénommée «prostitution routière».

Twaalfde eeuwse klooster gevonden op privé grondstuk in Palamós

Raar maar waar, maar tegenwoordig worden er nog wel eens artistieke juweeltjes gevonden in Spanje. Dit keer ontdekt of meer gezocht herontdekte men een klooster uit de twaalfde eeuw op een privé grondstuk in Palamós aan de Costa Brava. De Catalaanse regering wil een onderzoek instellen terwijl de inwoners van de plaats van niets wisten en het nieuws dan ook als een grote verrassing zagen.

Door toeval ontdekte een professor uit Barcelona in een Frans tijdschrift een reportage van het prachtig huis Mas del Vent en de daarbij horende tuinen in Palamós. De professor Boto Gerardo herkende de in de tuin staande pilaren en bogen en meende vanaf het eerste moment dat het hier om een klooster ging uit de middeleeuwen.

Dit klooster staat op het 22 hectare grote landgoed Mas del Vent van de Zwitserse eigenaren Kurt Engelhorn en zijn vrouw Carmen. Nadat de professor in de gaten had dat er waarschijnlijk een authentiek klooster verborgen stond aan de Costa Brava heeft hij meerdere pogingen ondernomen om dit klooster te onderzoeken. De eigenaren echter wilden van niets weten en lieten een onderzoek niet toe.

uit het Franse tijdschrift en beelden van Google Earth kon de professor achterhalen dat het daadwerkelijk om een authentiek klooster ging, een klooster waar niemand iets van af wist. De professor onderzocht tevens de archieven van de gemeente Palamós waarbij hui op foto’s stuitte van de opbouw van het klooster. Na onderzoek bleek dat de bogen en zuilen van het klooster door de opa van de huidige eigenaren van het landgoed in 1959 daar werden neergezet nadat deze waarschijnlijk uit Burgos of Segovia werden verhuist naar de Costa Brava.

Vakantie in Spanje populair deze zomerOndanks dat er, naar verwachting, minder Nederlanders in 2012 op vakantie zullen gaan, mag Spanje zich verheugen op een flinke stroom toeristen uit Nederland in de zomer van 2012.

Landen als België, Frankrijk en vooral ook Griekenland krijgen deze zomer te maken met minder vakantiegangers uit Nederland. Spanje blijft echter populair als vakantiebestemming in de zomer van 2012.

Niet alleen Spanje blijkt in trek, ook bestemmingen als Turkije en Kroatië lijken het weer goed te gaan doen deze zomer.

Naar verwachting zulen in 2012 bijna 11 miljoen Nederlanders op zomervakantie gaan. Ruim 70% van deze vakantiegangers viert de vakantie in het buitenland. Spanje

mag zich verheugen op bijna 1 miljoen vakantiegangers uit Nederland, een stijging met bijna 1%.

Dus ook dit jaar is de kans weer klein dat u geen Nederlanders tegen zult komen op de stranden van Spanje, immers vakantie in Spanje blijkt opnieuw populair te worden in de zomer van 2012.

Bestaande kinderbijschrijvingen verliezen geldigheid per 26 juni 2012Met ingang van 26 juni 2012 verliezen bestaande kinderbijschrijvingen in het paspoort van de ouder(s) automatisch hun geldigheid.

Om te kunnen reizen, moeten kinderen vanaf die datum een eigen paspoort, Nederlandse identiteitskaart of een ander reisdocument hebben.Vanaf dat moment kunnen ook geen nieuwe kinderbijschrijvingen meer worden aangevraagd.

Het vervallen van de kinderbijschrijving per 26 juni 2012 heeft geen gevolgen voor de geldigheid van het paspoort van de ouder (als daar nog kinderbijschrijvingen in staan).

Sinds 2009 is bekend dat per 26 juni 2012 paspoorten en reisdocumenten die door Europese lidstaten worden afgegeven aan andere (strengere) veiligheidskenmerken moeten voldoen. Als gevolg hiervan

geldt per die datum de verplichting: één persoon, één paspoort.

Staat uw kind op dit moment nog bijgeschreven in uw paspoort en heeft u vakantieplannen, vraag dan tijdig een paspoort voor uw kind(eren) aan, zodat u niet vlak voor uw vakantie voor een onaangename verrassing komt te staan.

TIPS VAN DE DOKTER

HOE VOORKOMT U EEN ZONNEBRAND?Eindelijk op vakantie, lekker naar het strand, en een beetje bruin worden. U heeft er lang naar uitgekeken, en nu is het dan zover.Maar hoe voorkom je een verbranding door de zon?

Allereerst:Voor baby’s tot circa 1 jaar is zonlicht ongezond. Ze hebben een hele gevoelige huid en verbranden heel snel. Alle delen van de huid moeten goed beschermd worden, door katoenen kleding, een zonnehoed of petje en een parasol. Houd ze het liefst in de schaduw, maar ook dan geldt nog dat ze goed ingesmeerd moeten worden. Liefst met een antizonnebrandmiddel van minstens factor 30. Ook hebben baby’s sneller last van oververhitting en uitdroging. Dus geef ze tussendoor iets extra’s om te drinken. Blijven ze huilen, hebben ze hoge koorts, of worden ze suf, raadpleeg dan een dokter.

Kinderen tussen 1 en 3 jaar kunnen een beetje zon verdragen, maar blijf heel voorzichtig, goed beschermen en niet te lang in de zon.

Voor iedereen geldt, dat een beetje zon goed is. De huid maakt vitamine D aan en zon geeft energie. Maar teveel zon geeft al snel een forse verbranding van de huid, of zelfs een zonnesteek. En heel veel zon verhoogt de kans op huidkanker op latere leeftijd.

Hieronder enkele tips om te proberen een verbranding te voorkomen.

1. Vermijd directe blootstelling aan de zon op het heetst van de dag tussen 10 uur ’s ochtends en 16 uur ’s middags. De zon staat dan op zijn hoogst en de stralen zijn het felst. Als u dan toch graag op het strand bent, gebruik dan in ieder geval een parasol, en een goed zonnebrandmiddel met zeer hoge beschermingsfactorvan 30 of meer.

2. Smeer u regelmatig in, liefst iedere 2 uur.

3. Aangebroken flessen die ouder zijn verliezen hun werkzaamheid. Gebruik geen zonnebrandmiddelen, die ouder zijn dan 1 jaar.

4. Bouw de tijd die u in de zon doorbrengt langzaam op; de eerste dag 15 minuten en dan langzaam omhoog. Dat vermindert de kans op zonnebrand en op zonneallergie.

5. Als u vaker gaat zwemmen, moet u ook vaker smeren. Met een waterproof

zonnebrand, kan men wel 2 of 3x het water in, maar daarna is het meeste toch weggespoeld.

6. Ook als het bewolkt is, of als u onder de parasol zit kunt u verbranden. Gebruik dus ook dan een beschermend middel.

7. Vergeet niet de lippen, neus en ogen te beschermen.

Wat te doen bij zonnebrand?Bij een milde zonnebrand kunt u koude tot lauwwarme compressen nemen ter afkoeling van de verbrande huid. Bij de apotheek kunt u ook verschillende middelen kopen tegen de verbranding, bijv op basis van aloe vera, of sterkere met medicijnen bijv in de vorm van een schuim (espuma). Hiervan zijn er heel veel. Ook kan paracetamol of ibuprofen helpen voor de pijn.

Wanneer moet u kontakt opnemen met een dokter?- U moet direkt kontakt opnemen met een dokter bij hevige klachten passend bij een zonnesteek, zoals extreme zwakte of duizeligheid, een versnelde pols of versnelde ademhaling, extreme dorst of wegblijven van de urineproduktie, hoge koorts boven de 40 graden, een zieke indruk, een bleke, koude, of klamme huid, koude rillingen, misselijkheid, fors pijnlijke ogen, die geen licht kunnen verdragen en de vorming van grote blaren op de huid.
