31 - 143Photodecarboxylative Addition of Carboxylates and α-Keto Car-boxylates to Phthalimides. — N-Substituted phthalimides (I) undergo aphotoinduced reaction with alkylcarboxylates (II) and (IV). Hydroxy phthal-imidines (III) and (V) are obtained by a decarboxylative addition reaction.Interestingly, α-keto carboxylates react in a similar manner by photodecarboxy-lation followed by photodecarbonylation providing products (V). Amino acidesters react with (II) to give adducts of type (VIII), albeit with low diastere-oselectivity. — (GRIESBECK, AXEL G.; OELGEMOELLER, MICHAEL;Synlett (1999) 4, 492-494; Inst. Org. Chem., Univ.
