Because of the nature of the modern Greek 'Diaspora', the provinces and the exiles have supplied what the centre could not so easily produce: Cavafy in Egypt, Kalvos in Exile, Tsaloumas in Australia and Seferis who could not have existed without Smyrna or without France.
