Supports multiple clock synchronization modes

 GPS-based radio interface clock synchronization

 External BITS synchronization clock input

 Abis/Iub-interface-E1/T1-synchronized upper-level clock

 GSM RF technology

By using flexible RF unit configuration and advanced softwaredefined radio (SDR) technology, BS8900 provides multiple RFsolutions to meet capacity and coverage requirements.

 Dual Power Combining Transmission (DPCT)

The two transmitters in the double density TRX implementDPCT. That is, the two transmitters send the same burstpulse at the same time to form a carrier through the com-biner, getting a larger downlink transmitting power and ex-tending the cell coverage area.

 Delay Diversity Transmission (DDT)

BS8900 supports downlink DDT. The two transmitterstransmit the same signal within a short delay, that is, thetwo transmitters work as one virtual transmitter, whichenhances the downlink signal and expands the coveragearea.

 Downlink transmit diversity

The downlink transmit diversity refers to that one carriersignal is transmitted through two antennas in a sector toform the space transmit diversity. It enhances the anti-fad-ing capability of downlink signal and increases the coveragearea.

 Interference Rejection Combining (IRC)

The IRC technology increases the receiver’s uplink sensi-tivity and increases the BTS’s uplink coverage area. WhenIRC technology is used, it is recommended that the BTS isequipped with at least two receiving antennas.

 Four Way Diversity Receiving (FWDR)

FWDR uses four antennas to receive uplink signals.BS8900can provide four diversity receptions for one carrier to ob-tain optimal gain. It enhances the uplink receiving perfor-mance as well as reduces the transmit power of MS. UsingFWDR and DDT simultaneously, using FWDR and DPCT si-multaneously, or using FWDR and downlink transmit diver-sity simultaneously enables the base station to implementultra-distance coverage.

Note:

Among the above functions, DPCT and DDT are only supportedby RU02.

FIGURE 29 SERVICE DATA FLOW

Downlink direction: The service data from BSC/RNC entersBBU through CC or SA. Abis/Iub interface IP protocol termi-nation and NAT conversion are implemented at CC. The datais then converted to internal IP datagram and transmitted tobaseband board (UBPG/BPC) through the Gigabit Ethernet(GE). The baseband board performs modulation, multiplexing, and rate adaptation for the internal IP datagram, and trans-mits it to the IQ switching unit of FS. Then, on the IQ switchingunit of FS, de-multiplexing, interleaving, frame forming, andparallel-serial conversion are implemented. Finally, the inter-nal IP datagram is distributed to RU through the baseband-RFinterface (optical interface).

Note:

If Abis/Iub interface adopts E1/T1 interface, then signal trans-ferring and protection are implemented through the SA board. If Abis/Iub interface adopts GE interface, then connect with theCC board directly.

Uplink direction: The IQ switching unit of FS receives base-band signals from RU, performs de-multiplexing for them, andthen transmits them to baseband board through high-speedserial signals. The baseband board then performs demodula-tion for them to get the original service signals. These signalsare packaged into Ethernet frames, transmitted to the switch-ing center through GE, and processed according to Abis/Iubinterface transmission protocols on the CC board. Finally, theyare transmitted to BSC/RNC through E1/T1/GE.

System Control Signal Flow

The CC board implements the main control function. The controlsignal is distributed to all other boards through CC board. Figure30 shows the control signal flow.

FIGURE 32 POWER DISTRIBUTION

Note:

When the system inputs AC power, the external AC power firstconnects ZXDU58 B121, and then is distributed to the PDM ineach cabinet after being rectified by B121. PDM distributes theinput power to the corresponding RU carrier and fan subrackand provides control and overload protection for each powerinput.

When the system inputs DC power, the power distribution inthe overall system is implemented by PDM. After the primarypower is input to the cabinet, the PDM distributes it to thebaseband layer (BC8910 is configured with BBU), RF unit, andfan subrack. PDM breaker provides switch for power control, which individually controls the baseband layer, each RF unit(RU60 or RU02), and poweon and poweroff of the fan subrack.

Cabinet Heat DissipationRC8911 HeatDissipation

The cooling air for RC8911 cabinet heat dissipation enters the cab-inet from the front door through ventilation cover, fan subrack, RFmodule, RF module, and air outlet.

RC8931 HeatDissipation

The cooling air for RC8931 cabinet heat dissipation enters the cab-inet from the front door through ventilation cover, fan subrack, RFmodule, RF module, and air outlet.

BC8910 HeatDissipation

BC8910 internal heat dissipation is realized through the heat ex-change between heat exchanger and ambient environment. Forpower rectifiers, the air duct is in front and back direction, andfor BBU and transmission device, the air duct is in left and rightdirection.

Chapter 5 Working Principles

RC8910 HeatDissipation

RC8910 heat dissipation is the same as RC8911. The cooling airenters the cabinet from the front door through ventilation cover, fan subrack, RF module, and air outlet.

PC8910 HeatDissipation

PC8910 heat dissipation adopts natural heat dissipation.

Cabinet WaterproofHandlingThe five cabinets of BS8900 uses the same waterproof methods.Take RC8911 as an example.

The RC8911 main cabinet can be divided into front area and backarea by the carrier and PDM installation platform. The front areais seal area, which reaches IP55 waterproof level. The back areaallows direct ventilation, which reaches IP54 windproof level. Thewhole equipment meets waterproofing requirement by using seal-ing bars.

Reliability

Table of ContentsHardware Reliability ...........................................................75Software Reliability ............................................................76

Hardware ReliabilityThe hardware reliability is achieved through the following points:

1. Structure design

RC8911 and RC8931 cabinets can be divided into front areaand back area. The front area is sealing area reaching IP55.The back area allows direct ventilation from outside, reachingIP54.

The overall heat consumption concentrates on RU60/RU02. RFmodule adopts sealed structure and therefore RC8911 maincabinet and RC8931 side cabinet use direction ventilation .Four fans are used for ventilation and heat dissipation. Thefans meet IP54 dustproof requirement.

Two dustproof nets are placed at the air inlet in front door. Oneis metal dustproof net, which has large net holes to preventlarge sized foreign object, and the other is thin hole dustproofnet. By using the two dustproof nets and sealing interface, thefront area reaches IP55 dustproof requirement.

2. Anti-static design

All parts within the cabinet are tightly connected by metalscrews. The static and discharge levels are: ±8kV for con-tact discharge and ±15kV for air discharge.

3. Lightning protection design

The lightning protection measures are as follows:

For AC power supply, realize level-B lightning protectionand reach 50KA protection

For DC power supply, realize level-C lightning protectionand reach 15KA protection

4. Grounding system design

The cabinet grounding uses single-point grounding. Thegrounding bar of each cabinet uses galvanized steel plate toweld to the bottom plate and ensures good contact.

ZXSDR BS8900 GU360 System Description

5. Shielding design

The door and cabinet main body are connected through con-ductive wires. The cabinet is connected to the outside througha grounding point.

6. Anti-fault design

To avoid wrong line connection, the sockets connecting differ-ent boards use different numbers of pins. The socket lines ofthe same board are marked clearly with symbols. If socketswith the same specifications exist, the power-correspondingpin and grounding lines are consistent so that the circuit is notdamaged in case of wrong line connection. In addition, for thesame set of sockets, use the same color and for different setsuse colors as different as possible.

The structure design ensures that the parts cannot be installedreversely or in wrong places. The board components arealigned in the same direction, encapsulated and attached withposition mark.

Software ReliabilityBS8900 system provides the following functions to guarantee soft-ware reliability.

1. Reliability of software running

Periodically performing statistics for CPU occupancy andstack.

Monitoring abnormalities such as the system CPU beingoverloaded, task in infinite loop, task suspense, and dead-lock.

Capturing various abnormal status of CPU and performingrelevant processing.

Providing the reset log and black box and recording on-siteinformation when the board software has error, which fa-cilitates fault location.

2. Reliability of database management

Supporting the abnormality reporting mechanism duringthe process of configuring site through Network Manage-ment (NM) software, and providing detailed error informa-tion.

Performing foreground-background data consistencycheck, and guaranteeing the consistency of fore-ground-background configuration data through whole-ta-ble configuration, data uploading, and foreground-back-ground data increment synchronization.

Supporting active/standby machine hot backup. Theactive-standby machine data consistency is guaranteedthrough active-standby whole-table synchronization andactive-standby increment synchronization.

Chapter 9 Reliability

Supporting the data saving protection mechanism.Through mechanisms such as data file mapping, log file, and reserved memory, data will not be damaged in case ofpower-down during the data saving process, and can stillpass the integrity and consistency check.

Providing the function of recording abnormality log andforeground/background configuration operations, which fa-cilitates fault location.

3. Reliability of link transmission

 Supporting active/standby link changeover.

The transmission layer adopts reliable transmission proto-cols, preventing the distributed denial of service attack.

The network layer adopts VRF to realize multiplexing ofIP resource and route tables, and supports the function ofusing default gateway for transmission in case of failure insearching routes.

The link layer adopts Vlan to separate broadcasts, whichavoids the mutual influence of broadcast storm.

The protocol stack provides the function of receivingpacket processing protection, which prevents the resourceexhaustion due to broadcast storm.

The IPinIP protocol is adopted to bear the NM channel, sep-arating O&M and service processing.
