A Few Words About The Hosting Organization
KEAN – CELL OF ALTERNATIVE YOUTH ACTIVITIES is a non-profit
organization which was founded in 2004 and is aiming at creating an
alternative model of everyday life focusing on human, natural environment
and social values such as freedom, democracy, equality, social justice,
solidarity and social awareness.
The organization pursues activities and projects which are aiming at the complete development of
personality and skills of young people. We strongly believe in a scientifically sound and reliable
information to citizens and that is why we carry out counselling services, scientific researches,
analyses, seminars and discussions.
KEAN disposes an energetic and rich history of actions, activities and programs, both at national and
European level and is considered as a reliable organization both from management authorities of
European Programs such as ERASMUS+, EACEA, EuropeAid, Youth in Action and Grundtvig, and from
the private sector with the biennial support of Vodafone for Planetbook Program, the first board/floor
game about environment.
Since the year of its foundation, the organization works to develop and expand the spirit of
volunteerism in Greece. KEAN has gained extensive experience in the management and development
of voluntary groups and coordinates “The Volunteer Network” of the huge urban Park “Antonis
Tritsis', which is located in the centre of Athens. For several years now, the organization implements
experiential educational programs addressed to students of primary and secondary education.
Moreover the organization, apart from the European Programs, is also implementing National
Programs such as the "Community Service Programme" and the program "TOP EKO" which aimed at
social integration of vulnerable groups into employment (non-EU citizens, disabled people, etc.).
Project Description
In our increasingly diverse and multicultural societies with the migration flows
constantly raising, mutual understanding and intercultural competence are more
important than ever. In fact, however, prejudices, discrimination and stereotypes
are very common in modern societies, with political parties that support extreme
ideologies to gain more and more ground in Europe.

In this context, the project “MIGRATION PERSPECTIVES” aims to contribute to the social integration of
migrants/refugees and to address the possible prejudices and stereotypes that young people have
towards this particular social group.
More specifically, it aims to:
Increase awareness and understanding of young people about the migration/refugee issue;
Moderate the negative stereotypes of young people and contribute to mutual understanding
between young people from different cultural backgrounds;
Contribute to the change of attitudes towards the different and to the establishment of
positive and constructive relations;
Develop young people's ability to interfere and express their opposition when behaviours of
prejudice or discrimination against individuals and groups occur;
Facilitate the exchange of views among young people from different countries, promoting
mutual understanding and cooperation.
The project includes a youth exchange to be implemented in Skala, Laconia providing a series of
interactive activities on the migration/refugee issue, discrimination, stereotypes, prejudices,
intercultural dialogue and understanding.
It will involve 40 young people aged 18 to 30 and 10 Youth Leaders from different cultural,
social and economic backgrounds with keen interest in exploring these issues. The project includes
people with fewer opportunities.
The project's methodology is based on the equal cooperation of the partners and the active
involvement of young people in all its aspects. The exchange will be based on non-formal learning
methods with particular emphasis on experiential and peer learning that will come as a result of the
participants’ interaction. Young people will be actively involved in all the activities and will contribute
to their realization with their ideas and creativity.
The main outcomes of the project will be the reflection that will arise around the issue as well as the
raised awareness of the young people. Deeper understanding of immigrants/refugees, the
development of young people's intercultural competence, the mitigation of their stereotypes and
prejudices and their activation to act against these phenomena.
In the long term, the minimization of the negative stereotypes and discrimination against
migrants/refugees, a harmonious coexistence and interaction and the creation of more favourable
conditions for their integration into European societies are expected.
