251. ἐφθίαθ’=ἐφθίατο, 3rd pl., = ἐφθιντο. οἵ, οἱ: first is a rel. pron. referring to ἀνθρώπων in 250; the second is an enclitic and dat. of accompaniment with ἁμά. τράφεν (=ἐτράφησαν) ἠδὲ γένοντο: hysteron proteron, i.e. the time represented by ἐγένοντο happens before that of τράφεν, although τράφεν preceeds ἐγένοντο. This device indicates priority of interest, the main ideas is contained in the first expression, the second is added as an afterthought for greater accuracy.
