Pros: No cars on the island, only donkeys! Very romantic, a short ferry ride from Athens, and within reasonable distance by water taxi from the islands of Spetzes, Poros, Aegina, Kea, and the continental destinations of Nafplio and the ancient theater of Epidaurus where theatrical and musical performances still take place.

Cons: A small island- only one "beach."

Pros: Iconic white architecture, beaches, excellent restaurants, hotels, shopping and nightlife. The islands of Paros and Santorini (both known for their beauty) are within a reasonable distance by boat.

Cons: Needs a vehicle to access the other parts of the island. A longer ferry ride- farther from Athens. Pricey as it will be the start of the high season and it is one of the most popular islands- can be crowded during the day due to cruise ships.

Pros: A green island with plenty of vegetation (shade!) some of the best beaches in Greece, excellent for water sports, lively nightlife, and more favored by Greeks and expats than tourists. Easy access by water to the less "spoiled" islands of Alonisos and Skopelos (the island where the film "Mamamia" was shot).

Cons: Accessible by plane or by the port of Agios Konstantinos with less regular ferries or from Volos, a long drive from Athens. Might require a night's stay at a port to await the ferry. A large island that needs a vehicle to access everything.
