OldSalts inPort: Steve Jones, JohnBakker,GuyBell,DonLeyman,TomStellerandDonDressel.Ships in Port: La Real, HMS Prince, Swift, HMS Pegasus, Schooner for Port Jackson andWappenVonHamburg.

Don started off the meeting with abriefdiscussionconcerninghisLaReal andthe fact that, apparently, his efforts tostraighten the hull worked for a period oftime, then started to twist again. Hedescribedwhathehaddone (seephoto) tostraighten the hull and hopes it will nowstay true to form as he has nowincorporated a water spray (at thesuggestion of Steve) to help straighten thehull.Donhasdecidedtoleavethehullaloneforaperiodtomakesureitremainsstraightbeforecontinuingthebuildofthemodel.

Don also showed his little “tool orjig” thathemadetosecure theplanks toaplank-on-bulkhead model while installingthe first layer of planks. Healso has little items to add to the tops(railings,guns,etc.)thathehadtoremovetocompletetherigging. John then talked about his newacquisition, the Schooner for Port Jackson, which he obtained a few days ago at theSMAauction. Healreadyhad thehullbuiltand inserted balsa wood between theframes (see photo). He says the plans areexcellent; a knife was supplied along withglue, three Australian sizes of sandingpaper, great rigging line andmetal anchors(insidejoke).
