ETIMOLOGIA e DEFINIZIONI
• sepsi (dal greco σήψις, "sēpsis",
putrefatto; σήπω, faccio putrefare)
cellulare, metabolismo anaerobio e morte
cellulare.

EPIDEMIOLOGY
Gram- Endotoxins are the most important triggers in Sepsis pathogenesis
are major healthcare problems, affecting millions aroundthe world each year, killing 1-2 in 4, and increasing in incidence.
•Every year, severe sepsis strikes about 750,000 Americans.•Between 28-50% will die-far more than the number of US deaths from• prostate cancer, breast cancer, and AIDS combined.•The number of sepsis cases per year has been on the rise in the US.•An estimated $17 Billion is spent annually to treat sepsis in the US.

CONCLUSIONS
• Sepsis up-regulates CD 64 expression on
monocytes and PMNs
• PMX-B Direct Hemoperfusion resets to • PMX-B Direct Hemoperfusion resets to
normal CD 64 expression on PMNs and
monocytes producing a favourable
immunomodulatory effect
CONCLUSIONS
PMX-B DIRECT HEMOPERFUSION:
• Increases Vit. E and total cysteine plasma levels
• Increases NADPH and GSH-Peroxidase levels• Increases NADPH and GSH-Peroxidase levels
