On behalf of the organizing committee Ihave the pleasure to invite you to participate

in the “7th International Conference onOptical Probes of pi-Conjugated Polymers and

Functional Self-Assemblies” (OP 2007) to be heldin the ICT Building in Turku, Finland on 11-15 June

2007.

This is the seventh topical conference concerning theoptical probes of pi-conjugated polymers, following the

successful conferences held in Snowbird (1991), Salt LakeCity (1994), San Diego (1997), Salt Lake City (2000), Venice

(2003), and Bangalore (2005). This year particular emphasiswill be placed on optical probes of functional self-

assemblies.

The event provides a great opportunity for chemists, physicists, and device engineers to meet and discuss ideas, solutions and

future issues on photophysical problems in these technologicallyimportant materials. The program is scheduled to provide room for

open discussion and interaction.

Sincerely,

Ronald Österbacka, Professor Åbo Akademi University, Turku, Finland

Situated by the Baltic Sea, along the Aura river, the city of Turku hasalways been the heart of culture and education in Finland. The first schoolin Finland, the Cathedral school was founded in 1276 and is still active.During the Swedish period the first university in Finland, old Åbo Akademiwas founded in 1640.

Today Turku is a city of three institutions of higher education and hightechnology. In addition to the University of Turku and the Turku School ofEconomics and Business, the city is the home of the country's onlyuniversity for the Swedish-speaking finns, namely Åbo Akademi University.

Turku is also an interesting city for tourists. For more information please visit:www.turkutouring.fi

This meeting deals with optical properties of p-conjugated polymers andoligomers, fullerenes, MX chains, bio-inspired polymers and photoniccrystals for. Special focus of this edition will be functional self-assembliesincluding metamaterials. Particular emphasis will be placed on time-resolved spectroscopies and non-linear techniques including charge andenergy transfer processes, single molecule spectroscopy, and spin-processes.

Major areas of interest are:● Optical probes of excited states● Optical and electrical probes of functional self-assemblies● Metamaterials● Non-linear optics and imaging● Charge and energy transfer processes● Spin physics in optical probes and devices● Photoconductivity and other electron transport processes● Phonon spectroscopies● Photonic crystals and applications in organic devices● Laser action; towards electrically injected organic laser ● Electro-optical device physics of CNTs, OLEDs, photovoltaics and

light emitting FETs● Single molecule/single chain spectroscopy ● Biosensing via optical probes, biopolymers● Role of inter-chain interactions, chain distortion and self localization

on the optical properties● Laser action; towards electrically injected organic lasing ● Optical probes of phosphorescent materials and devices
