At the southeastern edge of Europe, in Greece, lies Rhodes, the island of the Sun.At the crossroad of three continents, it is known since the ancient times as a meeting place of different people and cultures.

Nowadays Rhodes is one of the most popular tourisms and conference destinations in the southeastern Europe. Many are the reasons that established Rhodes as an ideal destination not only for vacation but also for Conferences and Incentive Travel, the geographical location, easy access, wonderful climate, natural beauty, history and culture, cosmopolitan atmosphere, as well as modern infrastructure and excellent conference and hotel facilities.

The most important of them is our Medieval Town, the seat of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem in the 14th and 15th centuries, that was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1988.

The traditions and customs of the island are still alive in the villages, whereas the cosmopolitan atmosphere

of the island is born anew every evening where clubs with Greek or international music abound. One can also savor the local delicacies in the many tavernas and restaurants of the island, some of which have attained international distinction, and are recommended in international restaurant guides. One should also taste the wines from our local wineries, which, in keeping

with the tradition from antiquity, produce quality wines that have received awards at many international wine exhibitions.

Rhodes has managed to combine its history and multicultural character with contemporary infrastructure in the modern urban center to become one of the most important tourist and conference destinations in Greece. The well appointed hotels, with more than 80.000 beds, 40.000 of which are A or Luxury Class, as well as several fully equipped conference centers, the newest of which has a maximum seating capacity of 3000 persons, can host any kind of conference or meeting from 100 up to 10.000 participants.

The athletic facilities for a plethora of sports are also excellent in Rhodes and can best serve both the training needs of athletes and teams and the organization of major sporting events.

Sports in Rhodes

Rhodes has a long and glorious tradition in sport. From the first Olympic Games of antiquity, Rhodian athletes have excelled. Diagoras, and many members of his family were reknowned for producing Olympic champions as was the Rhodian, Leonidas. Their fame remained throughout history to attest the value of sports in Rhodes. The Ancient Stadium bore witness to many athletic triumphs from Rhodian’s of antiquity, including achievements during the Aleia Games dedicated to, Helios, the sun god.

Today, sports in Rhodes are promoted via a selection of sports clubs and associations. Amongst the more popular sports are football, basketball, athletics, cycling, tennis, sailing, rowing and shooting.

Many significant athletic events have been organized or hosted in Rhodes. Amongst them are the International Cycling Tour of Rhodes (UCI), the International Beach Volleyball (FIVB), the World Triathlon Cup Competition (ITU), the World Standing Volley Tournament (‘03),(WOVD), and the Special Olympics (‘04). These examples represent a mere fraction of the many quality sporting events in Rhodes.

Rhodes in July.2007, hosted the

Nat West Island Games X11 Rhodes 2007 (www.rhodes2007.info). with the participation of 3500 athletes from 25 islands, from around the world. They competed in 14 sports events at 38 venues throughout the island.

Hosting games and athletic events of international calibre offered Rhodes an excellent opportunity to develop new facilities, refurbish existing ones, obtain new sports equipment and acquire invaluable organization skills. As a result, Rhodes now has the infrastructure and the capability to host major athletic events as well as to offer the potential for training of both individual athletes

and teams, in a variety of sports

Athletic facilities in Rhodes includes: • a modern 400m, 8 lane athletics track • a number of indoor wooden floor sports halls • several green set tennis courts • an archery field containing all the necessary equipment including chronometers • football pitches of natural and synthetic surfaces • table tennis equipment • a new indoor airgun shooting range and a fully equiped shooting facility.

Swimming in Rhodes

Within the city of Rhodes, swimming facilities are housed at the premises of the Nautical Club of Rhodes. It offers all the necessary facilities for complete training.Η εγκατάσταση διαθέτει:

Within the city of Rhodes, the NCR is centrally located and is close to the City Hall, the Aquarium, and the Marina. Nearby, there is an organized and cosmopolitan beach which has a three level, 10m flat diving platform.

Within the city of Rhodes, the commercial and historic centre incorporates the Medieval Town which has been inscribed on the UNESCO’s world heritage list and can be found only a short distance from the premises. Restaurants and hotels of all categories, are at hand.

At the Pythagoras Rhodes College, a 25 m international standard indoor swimming pool is available and is suitable for games and training.

Several beaches around the island are suitable for open sea swimming, such as the Afantou gulf, on the eastern part of the island. A golf course can be found nearby. It’s an organised beach with WC, showers and refreshment areas. Also suitable is the bay of Lindos and the extensive beaches in Southern Rhodes.

Triathlon in Rhodes

The Triathlon has been developed in Rhodes over the last 20 years by two athletic clubs. Many athletes participate in the National Championship.For swimming, the facilities of the Nautical Club of Rhodes can be used. The NCR is centrally located and is close to the City Hall, the Aquarium and the Marina. It offers:

• A 25m, 8 lane pool. specifications, FINA • All the necessary equipment for speed and backstroke, training board, keys etc A pool timer. • Changing rooms with showers , 7+7 and outdoor shower • Coffee shop with refreshments and light meals.

The sea around the NCR is also suitable for swimming. It’s safe with mild currents and sea temperatures of around 22ο C.

Within the city of Rhodes, the commercial and historic centre incorporates the Medieval town which has been inscribed on the UNESCO’s world heritage list, and can be found a short distance from the premises. Restaurants, and hotels of various categories, are at hand

For running, the Athletics Track at the Kallipateira Sports Complex in Korokonero, is available.

The Kallipateira Sports Complex is on the main Kalithea to Faliraki road. It’s just 3km from the centre of Rhodes and is regularly served by the local bus service. If travelling by car,

it has good parking facilities.

The complex has: • A 400m, 8 lane track with a 135m long line. • An indoor training room with rubber floor, 85 m long, with 4 speed lanes track and a pit jump. Its located behind the seat platform, close to the main entrance. • Located in the same area is a gym, changing rooms, WC, and a surgery. • Around the stadium and inside the complex, a controlled 1000m asphalt path is suitable for long distance running.

Near the complex there are hotels of all categories, restaurants, shops, traditional villages, beaches and attractions.

Sailing & Windsurfing in Rhodes

Sailing and Windsurfing sports are housed at the Nautical Club of Rhodes, founded in 1947. All the necessary facilities for complete preparation are available.

The equipment are in excellent condition and were acquired,in 2007. They include: • Lazer STD, RDL 4, 7, and for windsurfing R5, Neil Pryde type. • For sailing, there is a lazer track with calm waters, a short distance from the facility. • The facility also has changing rooms, showers, WC, gym, storage areas, a ramp and personnel for assistance and repairs. • There is also an area available for meetings with telephone and internet access and a coffee shop for refreshments and light meals. The facility includes an open air 25m, 8 lane pool.

The Nautical Club of Rhodes is centrally located, close to the City Hall, the Aquarium, and the Marina.

The Open Sea Nautical Club of Rhodes, was founded in 1989. It contributes considerable time to development of sailing in Rhodes and amongst its activities is the annual organization of the Sailing boat Skippers training course. The OSNCR, is housed in a 620 sqm building of traditional architecture at the coastal Zefyros area, in the city of Rhodes. The building also has a 200 seats meeting room.

In Rhodes, there are many types of sailing boats for hire.

Windsurfing is very popular in Rhodes and there are organized facilities of various types around the island.Due to well organized facilities and excellent climatic conditions , the gulf of Ixia and the beaches of Ialyssos and Prassonissi, are consiered a surfers paradise.

From April to Oct, the winds on the island tend to be in a north-west to west direction and are know locally as, ‘Meltemi’, and are generally around 12 knots. At all other times, the winds are generally in a south to west direction.

The gulf of Ixia and the beach of Ialyssos are close to the Diagoras International Airport and are considered as two of the best organized areas on the island, for tourists. In the area there are many hotels of all categories, amongst them some of the best 5* hotels on the island, restaurants and shops, to suit all tastes.

In the area of Prassonissi, there are traditional villages with rooms to rent and small hotels and restaurants, whilst in the Kiotari area, 10km away, there are many organized resort hotels and beaches.

Golf in Rhodes

Golf is a relatively new sport in Rhodes, since the completion of the Afantou Golf course, in the 70’s. There are three clubs that promote the sport with athletes of all ages, gaining achievements at national and international level.

The facility is located in the Afantou area, adjacent to one of the most beautiful and organized beaches on the island. It’s 15km from the Diagoras International Airport and 19km from Rhodes town.

The course was designed by the famous Golf course designer Charantin Donald, and had the following features: • 18 holes, par 74, 6,210km length (championship tees) 6 par 5, 4 par 3. • Practice facilities with putting green and chipping area. • The trees, mainly olive trees, the greens and the fergoueis retain their natural colouring, all year round. • Clubs, caddys, cars and balls are available for rent at a reasonable price. • The facility offers locker rooms, showers, WC, and a refreshment area. • It’s open all year round, 7 days a week from 7 a.m. until one hour after sunset .

Blue skies, sunshine and temperatures ranging from 10C to 32C annually, makes the course | suitable for playing, all year round.

A short distance from the course there are hotels of various categories, attractions, restaurants, taverns and the traditional village of Afantou.

Athletics in Rhodes

Athletics are quite prevalent and popular on the island of Rhodes.Σήμερα υπάρχουν 5 σωματεία και Ένωση που αναπτύσσουν και φροντίζουν για την διάδοση του Αθλήματος. Since the beginning of the 20th century there were clubs who worked the Classic Sports with excellent results in national and international games. Today 5 clubs and a Union develop the sport.

The main venue for the sport is the kalipateira Sport Complex, at the at Karakonero area. The Kallipateira Sports Complex is on the main Kalithea to Faliraki road. It’s just 3km from the centre of Rhodes and is regularly served by the local bus service. If travelling by car, it has good parking facilities of 400 seats.

Τhe sport complex is very well organised and has all the facilities for Athletics: • A 400m, 8 lane elastic surface track with a 135 m runway and direction to the North • two throws cages, one with North and the other with South direction, • javelin lanes on both sides of the field • stipple chase water ditch • 4 putting circles . • and 4 jumping landing areas (pit jumps) 2 on each side of the field.

There is 2,000 seats covered platform fully accessible to people with disabilities • An indoor training room with rubber floor, 85 m long, with 4 speed lanes track and a pit jump. Its located behind the seat platform, close to the main entrance. • Located in the same area is a gym with strengthening equipment changing rooms,

WC and a surgery. • Around the stadium and inside the complex, a controlled 1000m asphalt path is suitable for long distance running. • At the southern side of the complex there are a discus throw cage and putting circles for training • at eastern side there is an open air 120 m 5 speed lanes track, suitable for training.

The Kalipateira Sport Complex is located in an area where there are hotels of all categories, restaurants, shops, traditional villages, beaches and attractions.

Another Athletics venue on the island, is the one at the picturesque forest area of Agios Silas at the Municipality of kameiros. It’s 30km away from the city of Rhodes at the esat side of the island and it’ s equipped with: • A 400 m 8 lane track • 2 pit jumps with all the necessary equipments for competing and training • Changing rooms, shower, toilets • Lighting for evening games

At the surrounding area in a10 km range, there are various hotels, restaurants, traditional villages and sightseeing. Another facility suitable for Athletics training is available at the Diagoras Municipal Stadium at the city of Rhodes.

Cycling in Rhodes

Cycling is a popular sport in Rhodes and a cycling track was introduced as early as the 1930’s. A significant boost for cycling as a sport was granted by the existance of several kms of asphalt road and by the cycling track which was built at the Diagoras Municipal Stadium, in 1930.

Until 1984, the Rhodes cycling track was the only one in Greece , and all the cycling races of the Greek National Chanpionship took place there. For many years, the Greek National Cycling Team consisted mainly of Rhodians, who regularly held the top positions in the National Championships.

Today, cycling is still a prominent sport in Rhodes and there are four cycling clubs with athletes training in all disciplines Rhodian athletes, men and women, participate regularly in national and international competitons, with great success.

The cycling track at the Diagoras Municipal Stadium is of a concrete surface measuring 430m long by 8m wide and is used for training sessions and racing competitions.

The Diagoras Municipal Stadium is only 1km from the city centre of Rhodes .

There are many routes for cycling generally found mainland and in the southern part of the island. These routes on good quality asphalt surfaces, vary in gradients. National

and international cycling events are frequently organized in Rhodes.

The natural terrain of the paths and forest roads offers exciting routes for mountain bikes.

In the Municipality of Kameiros, a mountain bike circuit is located in the Agios Sillas area, close to the Soroni Village. The village is approximately 30km from the city of Rhodes . Many mountain bike events have been successfully organized.

Throughout the island, many hotels offer facilities for cycle repairs, washing, and storage. For service, failures and technical problems support is provided by the internationally known racing bicycle manufacturing company, FIDOUSA, which is established in Rhodes . www.fidousa.com

From 1996-2003 the International Cycling Tour of Rhodes, written in the UCI World Calendar as category 2/3, took place in Rhodes with the participation of athletes of international calibre, such as Kantselera. In Rhodes, football is a very popular and widespread. Since the beginning of the 20th century there have been many clubs developing football at a national level with outstanding results

Today, there are four local categories which the local Football Association continues to develop.

The most distinguished professional football teams in Rhodes are Diagoras, which was founded ,in 1902, and, Rhodes, which was founded, in 1968. There are also womens football teams that participate in the National Championship.

There are several football pitches throughout the island, the largest and most organized being the Diagoras Municipal Stadium of Rhodes.

The Diagoras Stadium is located just 1km from the city centre of Rhodes. It has recent historic significance as it was built in 1930, by the Italian Occupation authorities and it was named, ‘Arena Del Sole’.

It serves as the Headquarters of both Diagoras and Rhodes, and has hosted many international competitions and national Championship Games.

The facility offers: • A football pitch with natural grass • Changing rooms, showers, 5+5, WC • Press room, offices and internet connection • Warehouses, training equipment • 3500 seats, 600 of them in a covered platform • lighting for night matches.

At the southern side of the Stadium there is a 75 m x 45 m training field with natural grass.

There is also lighting for night training.

There are many football pitches on the island suitable for both training and matches. Most are a short distance from hotels, restaurants, taverns, traditional villages, beaches, attractions and archaeological sites.

Football pitches with natural grass that offer an opportunity to host training sessions are the Municipal Stadiums of: • Kalithies, which also has a training area. • Ialyssos, the Oikonomidio Stadium. • Maritsa and Paradisi, at the Municipality of Petaloudon. • Archipolis, at the Municipality of Afantou. • Archangelos. • Embona, at the Municipality of Atavyros.

Football pitches with artificial turf are the ones at: • Ilioupouli, at the Kallipateria Athletic Centre, in the Municipality of Rhodes • Koskinou, Psinthos, Kalithies, in the Municipality of Kalithea • Afantou • Kremasti, in the Municipality of Petaloudon • Genadi and Vati, in the Municipality of South Rhodes

Basketball in Rhodes

Basketball is the second most popular sport in Rhodes. From the early 20th century, there were clubs who were practising the sport on the island. Today, there are over 15 local basketball clubs, all members of the active local Basketball Association, as well as the local Referees Association.

The Kolossos Basketball Club, which was founded in 1963, is qualified to participate in the Mens National A1 Division of the Greek Basketball Championship.

The Kolossos Club is based at the Venetoklio Indoor Hall, in the city of Rhodes and is the most organized basketball facility on the island. The Venetoklio Indoor Hall has: • Wooden floor, 32m x 20m • Training equipment. • Showers and WC. • A platform of 1300 seats. • A platform for journalists and a kiosk

In the city of Rhodes, there is also the Diagoras, an indoor court with a wooden floor.

Other basketball courts on the island which serve as a base for local teams are: • The Indoor Hall at the Municipality of Ialyssos. • The Indoor Hall of Kremasti at the Petaloudon.Both of them have wooden floors, equipment and training rooms.

They are within easy reach of hotels of various categories, restaurants, sightseeing, beaches and archaeological sites.

Rowing & Kayak in Rhodes

Since the early 30’s, Rowing has maintained a significant presence on the island of Rhodes, with several distinctions and achievements both at national and international level. In the 1956, Melbourne Olympic Games, the participation of the athlete Nick Chatzigiakoumi, for the Nautical Club of Rhodes, was the highest achievement.

• Suitable locations for training and races are the sea area around the Nautical Club of Rhodes and the artificial lake of Apolakia, in the Municipality of South Rhodes. • The various vessels that belong to the Nautical Club of Rhodes are available for use in both areas.

Kayak (level) is a relatively new sport in Rhodes beginning in 1977, but despite its short history Rhodian athletes have achieved distinctions at national level.

Suitable locations for Kayak are the sea at the Nautical Club of Rhodes and the artificial lake at Apolakia, in the Municipality of South Rhodes. Soon another artificial lake suitable for Kayak will be available at Gadouras, which is now under construction, in the Municipality of Lindos.

The main facilities the Nautical Club of Rhodes has:

• Storage area and personnel for boat repairs. • Ramp and platform for entering the water. • Changing rooms with showers 7+7, outdoor shower, WC, gym. • Coffee shop serving refreshments and light meals.

The artificial lake at Apolakia, is 1750m long and 200m wide and is located 3km north-east from the village of Apolakia where accommodation and restaurants can be found. The Genadi Village. at the southside of the island, is 12km from the venue and the area has beautiful beaches, hotels of various categories, restaurants and attractions.

Beach Volleyball & Volleyball in Rhodes

Since 1975, Volleyball and Beach Volleyball have developed in to popular sports with local leagues and teams participating in the National Championship. Beach Volleyball developed quickly and took place on several beaches on the island. Today, many young men and women are involved in the sport, participating in the National Championship and representing the country at a national level.

World and European tournaments, as well as matches for the FIVB World Beach Volleyball Championship were organized in Rhodes, in 1998, 2002, 2003, and 2004, respectively.

In 2007, at the Kallipateira Sports Complex, two permanent international standard Beach Volleyball courts were built. The courts have all the necessary training equipment and facilities, such as showers, storage, tents and a 300 seats platform.

Changing rooms are available at the athletics ground, next to the beach volleyball courts. Also within the Kallipateira Sports Complex there is a gym, an indoor training hall with rubber flooring, a 400 m, 8 lane track and a safe route of 1500 mm.

For the Beijing Olympic Games, six European Olympic teams were prepared at these courts: Finland , Italy , Germany , Greece x 2 and Austria. The Schwaiger sisters represented Austria and finished in the top 8.

The Kallipateira Sports Complex is on the main Kalithea to Faliraki road. It’s just 3km from the centre of Rhodes and is regularly served by a local

bus service. If travelling by car it has good parking facilities.

The complex is located in an area where there are hotels of all categories, restaurants, shops, traditional villages, beaches and attractions.

Beach Volleyball courts are also available in Kremasti and Kiotari.

Volleyball. Since the 1960’s, Rhodes has open courts for Volleyball and the sport is very popular in schools, at all grades. Since 1975, local men, women and youth Championships have been held, whilst local teams occasionally become involved in the Greek National Championship.

There are four indoor courts suitable for Volleyball matches and training: • The Venetoklio Indoor Hall and the Diagoras Indoor Hall, in the city of Rhodes . • The Indoor Hall of Ialyssos, in the Municipality of Ialyssos. • The Indoor Hall of Kremasti, in the Municipality of Petaloudon. Archery is an integral part of the mythology, history and traditions of the island.However, Archery is a fairly new sport in Rhodes and the Archery Club wasnt founded until 2004. Today, there are two Archery clubs with many athletes, men and women, who participate in the National Championship, with distinctions.

High quality equipment and adequate areas to host games, training and preparations at all levels, are available in Rhodes.

Rhodes hosted the Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) Archery Olympic team for a two week pre-Olympic training session in preparation for their participation in the Athens Olympiad. Both men and women, who came to Rhodes in 2004, for the Athens Olympic preparation won medals. Olympic silver and bronze were won, respectively.

The Open Air Municipality Archery field is located in the area of Fytorio, just 5km from the city of Rhodes and 1.5km from Koskinou Village. The route is covered by a local bus service.

• With dimensions of 120 m x 85 m it meets the FITA and Olympic standards. • It’s equipped with Danage (FITA), a modern open space chronometer and ancillary equipment. • It has a northerly direction and is protected by tall trees from all sides. From the eastern side, there is a hill. • It’s fenced and secure, with parking space and storage. • It’s accessible to the disabled.

A short walking distance from the facility, there are hotels of all categories, restaurants, shops, traditional villages, beaches, and attractions such as the Kalithea springs and the traditional village of Koskinou.

A smaller open spaced training field is also available at the Kallipateira Sports Complex. The complex is within the same area, 3 kms from Rhodes city centre. Ir’s suitable for short distances , with dimensions of 50m at the north-south direction and 70 m at the east-west.

At the Kallipateira Sports Complex there is a gym, shower rooms, WC with facilities for the disabled and a surgery.

An indoor training field suitable for an 18 m distance is also available at the Proskopon gym, in the Rhodes city centre.

There are open air facilities suitable for archery in Afantou, Koskinou, Embona and Kiotari which has a field suitable for an 18m distance.

Clay Targets, Airguns and Pistols. Shooting is a relatively new sport in Rhodes. Two clubs promote the sport with very good results, both at national and international level.

Today, Rhodes is able to offer excellent facilities for shooting such as the Airguns Shooting Hall and the Clay Target facility, including all the necessary equipment sufficient for the 25 m and 50 m pistol shooting.

The clay targets shooting facility at Laporte Hellas was built in 2007, at the Mazefia area. in the Municipality of Afantou. It includes:

• Five northerly facing fields, that meet the ISSF specifications for the: - Olympic categories of Skeet and Trap. - Non-Olympic categories of Sporting Compact, English Sporting and American Trap. • The electromechanical equipment was provided by Laporte, the provider of the Athens and Beijing Olympiads. • Guns are available to everyone who uses the facility, as well as coaches and assistants. • The facility also has a bar and WC. • The Shooting facility of Laporte Hellas is 2 km away from Afantou Village and 4 km away from Afantou beach, one of the largest and most organized beaches on the island. Adjacent to the beach, is the Afantou Golf course, the only one on the island. Nearby there are hotels, restaurants and many attractions.

The Airguns Shooting Hall is located in the city of Rhodes and is also accessible to the disabled. It includes modern equipment, electromechanical target systems, international standard Austria Rica seats, an electronic system for measuring performance, spacious athletes and spectators areas, excellent lighting, air conditioning, storage, WC accessible to the disabled.

The practical shooting field is located in the Kalamonas area, in the Municipality of Petaloudon. It lies only a short distance from the Valley of the Butterflies, 5km from Kremasti Village, 18 km from the city of Rhodes, and 4 km from the Diagoras International Airport.

The facility includes: • 12 shooting area and all the necessary equipment for training and competition. • A 25 m and 50 m shooting area, with conventional shooting targets, both containing a 25 seats area. • A short distance from the complex there are restaurants, with local cuisine, traditional villages, hotels and wineries.

JudoJudo has a 30 year history on the island of Rhodes. Today, four clubs develop the sport and there are distinguished Rhodian athletes, both at national and international level.

National and international tournaments, with the participation of athletes from the Balkan and Meditteranean countries are organized frequently on the island and local athletes are often amongst the medal winners.

Ziu-ZitsuZiu-Zitsu has become widespread in Greece, and very popular on the island of Rhodes. Since 1990, five clubs have been formed and at National Championship level several distinctions have been awarded, particularly at youth level.

All the necessary equipment such as mattresses, result tables and scales are available for training.There are four suitable indoor halls for matches and training. • The Venentoklio Indoor Hall and the Diagoras Indoor Hall, in the city of Rhodes. • The Indoor Hall of Ialyssos, in the Municipality of Ialyssos • The Indoor Hall of Kremasti, in the Municipality of Petaloudon.

Equestrian in Rhodes

Although inextricably linked to mythology, history and the traditions of Greece , Equestrian is a relatively new sport to Rhodes.

In 1996, the first Equestrian Club named, “Cadmos’, was formed and since the year 2000, has been hosted in a private 12 acres facility, in Sgourou.

It’s located 10 kms from the Rhodes City centre and is close to Rhodes-Lindos Ave.

In 2002, the facility was included in the Athens Olympiad, pre-games training for Dressage and Jumping.

The facility has:

• A 60 x 80 track suitable for Grand Prix level competition in Dressage and Jumping. • A 20 x 40 training track. • A smaller rink of 300 sqm for riding lessons with ponies. • A 900 sq.m. covered area where there are 35 horse boxes, rooms for cellars, WC, showers, storage for hay and horse feed. • A building with a rest area and restaurant for athletes and visitors.

Τennis & Table Tennis in Rhodes

TennisDeveloped over many years, tennis has become a popular sport in Rhodes. The Rhodes Tennis Club, which was founded in 1948, promotes the sport with great success, both at national and international level.

The main venue of the game is located at Korakonero, next to the Kallipateira Sports Complex, 3 kms from Rhodes city centre.

In 2007, the venue was completely renovated and, today, consists of: • 5 green set tennis courts-life cushion system-4 coats. • 3 ceramic courts with lighting suitable for night games.

There are also showers,changing and locker rooms, WC, an administration office and a restaurant

At the premises of the old tennis club, two ceramic courts are available, one of which has a synthetic surface. The premises can be found near the Elli beach, in the city of Rhodes.

From 27th April until 3rd May 2009, the ‘Aegean Tennis Cup’, an ATP Challenger International Tennis Tournament, is taking place in Rhodes, with a total prize money of $125,000. The tournament will take place at the Rhodes Tennis Club and is aiming to become an annual event. (www.atcrhodes.com)

Next to the Tennis Club, at the Kallipateira Athletic Complex there are gym facilities, an athletics track, a football stadium, 2 beach volleyball courts, an archery training field and a refreshment area serving beverages and light meals.

Complex are frequently served by the local bus service. A large car parking facility is also available.Tennis training courts are also available at Soroni, Ialyssos and Kremasti.

Table TennisAs of yet, the ping pong game has not become too popular and only schools and a sinlge sports club practice the sport.

The available equipment includes: • 10 Joola Rolomat tables approved by ITTF, split charts and referee tables. • There are four gyms available for preparation, training and matches.All of them accommodate 10, and have wooden floors, good lighting, air conditioning, showers and refreshment area. All are accessible to the disabled.

The available facilities are at: The indoor court of the Municipality of Ialyssos, the indoor stadium of the Municipality of Petaloudon, and the indoor stadiums of Diagoras and Venetoklio, in the city of Rhodes.

Horses are also available for group tours in the forests and mountains surrounding the facility.

Sea Connections Large ferry boats operate between the ports of Piraeus and Rhodes every day. The boats usually stop at the islands of Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos, and Kos. The trip takes approximately 12 hours. Details of arrival and departure times should be checked locally from the Harbour Police Station. There are also ferry services from Rhodes to other Dodecanese islands and Crete.

Public Transport The bus network covers the island efficiently and the vehicles are in good condition. Within the town there are bus routes that cover all the areas of the city of Rhodes operated by RODA, which serves the West coast and part of the East coast up to Faliraki. The other operator is KTEL. It serves the East coast of the island up to Kattavia Village. The buses of both operators leave from the New Market the Mandraki.
