Many are the monuments, which are evidence of our rich and varied past the traces of the many different civilizations that left their imprint on the island throughout its 4000 - year history. The most important of them is our Medieval Town, the seat of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem in the 14th and 15th centuries, that was inscribed on UNESCOs World Heritage List in 1988.

The traditions and customs of the island are still alive in the villages, whereas the cosmopolitan atmosphere

of the island is born anew every evening where clubs with Greek or international music abound. One can also savor the local delicacies in the many tavernas and restaurants of the island, some of which have attained international distinction, and are recommended in international restaurant guides.
