Η Marina Tsvetaeva σε επιστολή της προς τον Rainer Maria Rilke γράφει: «Διαρκώς ταξιδεύεις. Δεν ζεις πουθενά, και συναντιέσαι με Ρώσους που δεν είναι εγώ. Άκου, για να το ξέρεις: στη χώρα του Ράινερ μόνον εγώ εκπροσωπώ τη Ρωσία. Ράινερ, τι είσαι πραγματικά; Γερμανός όχι, αν και ολόκληρη η Γερμανία! Βοημός όχι, αν και γεννημένος στη Βοημία (σημ. γεννημένος σε μια χώρα που ακόμη δεν υπήρχε –αυτό είναι αλήθεια), Αυστριακός όχι, διότι η Αυστρία υπήρξε, ενώ εσύ θα υπάρχεις διαρκώς!
