    Α. Laboratory aim:

    The Laboratory of Radiation Physics, Materials Technology and Biomedical Imaging (ΑΚΤΥΒΑ) aims to promote scientific research under conditions of academic freedom and voluntary participation of founding members and associates in the activities listed below.

    B. Fields of Research:

    The Laboratory of Radiation Physics, Materials Technology and Biomedical Imaging supports research and

    education in the following topics:

    1. Radiation Physics (Ionizing and non-Ionizing), Radiation Detectors, Quantitative determination of Biological Parameters and Tissue Characterization, Monte Carlo simulations etc.

    2. Biomedical Instrumentation (simulation, design, construction, development, maintenance, Quality Control, Quality Assurance of Biomedical Imaging and Therapeutic Instrumentation)

    3. Image Science (Theoretical and Experimental Analysis of Methods and Systems) 4. Materials Technology (Materials of interest for Radiation and Biomedical Applications). 5. Development and evaluation of portable radiation detectors for gamma –ray spectroscopy and security

    applications 6. Electronic and Mechanical constructions 7. Quality Control and Quality Assurance, and Validation methods for applications in Biomedicine 8. Medical Devices Calibration 9. Clinical Imaging

    C. Objectives of the Laboratory activities: 1. To conduct research on the above-mentioned fields. 2. Research to cover teaching requirements at undergraduate and postgraduate level. 3. Undertaking and implementing national and international research projects as well as undertaking consultancy or development of projects and studies contributing to social benefit in accordance with academic ethics. 5. The preparation of studies (including technical specifications) to support the services of the University of Western Attica in topics related to the scientific fields of the Laboratory. 6. Any activity that is compatible with, or is derived from, the laboratory's research fields 7. In the context of joint activities with other institutions and organizations, the laboratory shall make available equipment in strict compliance with the relevant legislation (e.g. Radiation Protection, Safe Operation, Safety Conditions, etc.), the operating regulations of the laboratory and the corresponding requirements of the technical specifications of the equipment.
