SUNDAY READINGS

First Reading: 1 Samuel 5:2 Today’s reading records how God orchestrated David’s anointing as king of Israel, a central figure in Jesus’ ancestry. What does this teach us about God’s divine providence? Second Reading: Col 1:13 Paul preserves for us one of the earliest Christological hymns (Col 1:15-20). How do you see this hymn affirming Jesus’ identity as our Lord and King? Gospel: Luke 23:43 For Luke, those who mocked Jesus on the cross failed to see how his suffering and death were central to his identity as Lord and King of the Universe. Why do you think this remains a mystery to so many?

MESSAGE FOR THE WEEK “The rulers sneered … the soldiers jeered … one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus.” Is this the King of the Jews, the King of the Universe? If it is so, perhaps his kingdom is not at all what we would expect! St. John Paul II spoke about how Christians share in the kingly mission of Christ. First, “they exercise their kingship as Christians, above all in the spiritual combat in which they seek to overcome in themselves the kingdom of sin.” Before we give any thought to trans-forming society, we must first allow God to transform us. Through daily prayer, regular self-examination, and frequent confession, we can recognize our faults more readily and choose love instead! Christ’s kingship, and our own participation in it, requires us to look beyond the privi-leged of society. It goes beyond networking and struggles of power. It goes with Jesus to the Cross! Still, the kingship of Christ ought to effect society. “The lay faithful are called to restore to creation all its original value … ordering creation to the authentic well-being of humanity.” Jesus does this in a radical way through his death and resurrection. We, too, are invited to bring new life to the world around us. This means holding the world and everything in it as sacred. It means advocating for civil policies that respect life and paying special care to the vulnerable and mar-ginalized in every stage of life. It means being disciples of Jesus, inviting people into authentic love so that one day we will together “be with him in Paradise!”

F A I T H F O R M A T I O N RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS

How Would You Rule Your Kingdom? It would be kind of awesome to be a king or queen! Absolute rule, untold wealth, and people answering your every beck and call are things that wouldn’t be half bad. Of course, I would be a benevolent mon-arch, and I would hope that all my subjects would love me. They could cheer me as I came out of the palace, and I think my popularity ratings in the polls would be through the roof. But if they weren’t, that would be fine, too, because I would rule the kingdom. And that means no throwing me out of office. Talk about job security! As great as that sounds, the King of kings could have had all that as well, but in-stead, he chose quite a different path. He gave up absolute rule so all his subjects could have the free will to choose to follow him. He gave up untold wealth so he could be treated like a common criminal and receive a death sentence. He gave up having servants at his disposal so he could be the servant of all his subjects himself. Yes, he was the King of kings, but he was nothing like a typical king. As much as I think it would be great to be a king myself, I would rather emulate this King instead. Who would you rather be like? You could have it all or choose to give away everything. You could choose a path of lux-ury or a path of trial. You could be respected by many or find yourself in a culture that increasingly finds you objectionable. Who would you rather be like? Do you arrive at an answer quickly, or do you need some time to think about it? The King of kings awaits your reply. Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

GIFT FROM THE HEART Five Barron churches

come together to sponsor the GIFT FROM THE

HEART program. it provides a gift to help

make Christmas a little brighter for children in need.

Parishioners interested in participating may pick up hearts before and after Mass on Saturday,

November. 30th, Sunday December 1st and Saturday December 7th, Sunday, December 8th.

Information specific to gender, age and wishes will be provided. Thank you!

God has given each of us many blessings. Fostering an “attitude of gratitude” might be easier than you think. Simple, concrete practices can help us to be more thankful more often. Incorporate it into your dinner with your spouse, or as you tuck the kids into bed at night. “What are three things you’re thankful for today?” Make a habit of writing one note a week to someone special in your life, thanking them for how they’ve impacted you. This is also a good practice in the workplace. Consider opening your weekly meetings with a quick round of gratitude sharing. “I’m grateful John helped me with that last-minute change to my presentation last week. I wouldn’t have finished it in time for the meeting without him.” Another way is to designate a few minutes to thank God. This could be the first bit of your daily prayer time or after you receive communion on Sundays. You can also integrate it into your daily routine. How about while brushing your teeth? There’s probably nothing so important it can’t wait two minutes. Brush your teeth, quiet your mind, and thank God from your heart for His blessings throughout the day. Get creative! Any moment is an opportunity to praise and thank God.

PLEASE JOIN in welcoming our visiting priest, Rev. Bill Kulas from Unbound, visiting our cluster as Fr. Bala is away at NCYC this

Working with the downtrodden at Sharing & Caring Hands in Minneapolis and Warming

House, he has always felt a special love for the poor as he sees Christ in them.

Please continue to pray for our NCYC participants as well as everyone traveling from the Diocese of Superi-or to grow in their faith in ways that will change their

lives and possibly change the world!

Lord, you deserve all honor and praise, because your love is perfect and your heart sublime. My heart is filled to overflowing with gratitude for the many blessings and graces you have bestowed upon me and those whom I love. Forever undeserving, may I always be attentive and never take for granted the gifts of mercy and love that flow so freely and generously from your Sacred Heart. Heart of Jesus, I adore you. On Wednesday, December 11th, all are invited to

A supper is provided in between, and a Holy Hour will follow—including the opportunity for Reconciliation. The event is FREE. All ages will be graced by this opportunity to take time during the busy season to focus on the most important things and approach Christmas with an extra sense of joy and peace.

ALL ARE WELCOME! Please join us at Atrium Health Care, for our Ecumenical Service at 1:45pm THIS Sunday, November 24th. We gather with the residents to worship and praise our Lord together.

Would you like to experience some Christmas joy? How about adopting a family for

Christmas? St. Peter’s Giving Tree w/tags is up this weekend @ STP. What fun to pick out gifts and wrap them for a special family. We ask that the wrapped gifts be returned to St. Peter after the

8am Mass on December 15th. Spread the joy of Christmas!

On December 1, 2019 the family of Brooke Baures invites everyone to breakfast at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Five years ago on the first, Brooke's life was taken too soon. The family would like to share their ap-preciation for the "Love Beyond Measure" that has been shared over these last 5 years. After 8:00 am Mass they would like to serve the community and friends breakfast to show their appreciation. Please know that without all the love and support the journey of grief would not have been so bearable. You all have shown us Love Beyond Measure. Please join us in remembering Brooke's life and allowing us to pay it forward to a community who five years ago came together to support us. Smile On! - The Baures Family
