Introduction

• Orifice meters are as popular as they are simple,generally inexpensive & reliable, however…

there is a long held axiom throughout industry thatorifice meters have no internal diagnostics.

• A flow meter diagnostic system is desirable forseveral reasons:

– guarantees meter performance thereforereducing exposure to measurement error,

– allows condition based maintenance (CBM)instead of routine scheduled maintenance (RSM):

o avoiding unnecessary risky routine scheduledmaintenance on HP systems!

… if it ain’t broke don’t try and fix it,

- there is always the risk of loss of containment.

– CBM makes technicians in the field hugely moreproductive & efficient. They go to a meter with aproblem every time, instead of blindly searchingfor problems!
