THE COMPANY

“Offshore Energy Systems SA” (OES SA) was founded with the objective to develop and commercially exploit a series of innovative products, methods and services in the marine and offshore sector, protected by patents the rights of which it holds. More specifically the company holds patents for the following:a)wave-absorbing systems.b)ride control system for fast and super fast crafts based on air-fed foils of “mixed” structure.c)system for electricity production by exploiting the wave energy. d)Temporary energy storage system in the form of compressed air in air tanks of balloon type anchored at the sea bottom.Under course are also:a patent referring to a self installed Floating Wind Measurement Platform, with a retractable mast of big height.a low cost Floating Wind Platform capable of carrying a high capacity Wind Generator of a combined Tension Leg and spar technology, of mixed structure.a patent for adjustable well covers

The width and depth of our research and development efforts give our company the character of an innovation center in the area of marine technology. As a result of these efforts we have a wide production line of innovative and effective products and services which give solutions to a wide range of needs in the onshore and offshore sectors.The heart of our efforts, which are incorporated in our technologies, products and services, is the innovation and environmental protection.Our strategic target today is the Offshore Renewal Energy sector including wind energy and wave energy. OES has a significant advantage in studying and designing offshore wind farms, acquiring and analyzing measurements of wind potential, completing all the necessary studies and procedures to get a license and in executing projects of this kind. ENERGY SYSTEMS – RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

Offshore Energy Systems claims to be leader in the energy sector having developed significant technologies in this area. More specifically:

Wind Measurement systems We can undertake the full design, construction, installation and operation of wind measurement systems, data acquisition and analysis in all areas either land or offshore. More specifically:Floating platform for wind measurements with foldable mast at the real height for deep and very deep waters.Assembled or foldable masts of multiple uses for wind measurement installed at the sea bottom in locations with relatively shallow waters .Assembled or foldable masts for multiple uses installed at land locations Data acquisition and analysis of wind measurements according to the regulations and international standards, preparation of a complete file for licensing of offshore wind farms.

Offshore Wind FarmsStudy, design and construction of platforms for the installation of wind generators in offshore areas for a wide range of water depths. More specifically :1.Platforms supported on the sea bottom in relatively shallow waters capable to carry a high capacity wind generator.2.Floating Platforms of INFLO technology (INtensive FLOtation), of excessive buoyancy and vertical moorings , capable to be installed in deep and very deep waters and capable of carrying a wind generator of very high capacity.

Systems for temporary energy storage in connection with wind and wave energy exploitation. We develop systems for energy storage in the form of compressed air, stored in air tanks installed at the sea bottom, capable of storing big quantities of energy. The air tanks are of a balloon type installed at the sea bottom, while the retrieval of stored energy is achieved by exploiting the water pressure at the installation depth.The storage system can work in combination with our Wave Energy Converter, a system under development within our company and which is described in other sections of this presentation. In our wave energy exploitation the system directly produces compressed air which can be stored in the air tanks during the night hours and to be utilized in producing electricity during day hours of high demand. In this case the system can also exploit the daily difference of temperature since during night the air temperature is low while during day the temperature is much higher and can be used to heat the stored air increasing thus its energy content.In wind power excess electricity which cannot be absorbed by the system or it is produced at low demand hours can be used to compress air which can be stored in the sea bottom air tanks. This energy can be used to produce electricity during day hours of high demand in the same way as is done with our wave energy system.

OFFSHORE AND COASTAL WORKS

The coastal and offshore areas in Greece consist the vital field where most of human economical and social activity develops.With 16.000 Km of coast line and with the unique island complex of Aegean and Ionian seas this country should be at the edge of sea technology developments , to export technology, not import.The pressure to execute works in the coastal areas has led to monolithic structures, either legal or illegal, which have huge cost, but most importantly huge impacts to the environment.In this context our company has undertaken a serious and systematic effort to develop useful technologies and applications for tackling a large number of problems of this kind. In our products and applications the following are included:1.Floating wharfs for accommodating small boats (leisure, fishing etc) for the internal layout of ports, marinas, fishing and touristic ports, as well as in protected bays.2.Floating docks for accommodating large ships and especially Ferry Boats.3.Floating platforms of intense floatation and vertical moorings with applications in deep waters for fish farms, offshore works in open sea etc.4.Platforms –wharfs on piles of supported and assembled type with applications in developing accesses to the sea, especially in areas open to the weather.5.Floating wave absorbers of vertical moorings for creating protected areas with many different applications in developing ports, in protecting existing ports, in protecting shore from corrosion etc.6.Absorbing docks for tackling the clapotis waves in the interior of existing and new ports. 7.Apparatus for absorbing water beam produced by ship propulsion devices and for protecting docks from underscoring.8.Open water fish cages for deep and very deep waters 9.Floating anchorages for tankers (oil terminals), large Cruising ships

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENTOffshore Energy Systems SA is an innovation center which is solely based on its research program for the development of products and services. In fact all our products and services we offer are the product of in house research efforts.Shortly we have developed technologies in the following fields:1.The Intense Floatation Technology (INFLO Tech) which in fact is an application of the Tension Leg principles in day to day floating applications. INFLO technology has found applications in constructing floating wharves, Floating Platforms for deep waters, in the development of fishing cages for open waters, but also platforms of INFLO tech consist the carriers of the wave absorbing cells of the floating wave absorbers, the wave energy converters of our system for exploiting wave energy. It is also the basis for the floating wind measurement platforms which we have developed, the floating fish farm lighting and surveillance towers, the Wind Platforms that can carry large wind generators for deep and very deep waters. However INFLO technology, in our sense is not a simple tension leg application since it is a combined tension leg and spar technology with inherent capabilities for tuning system natural frequencies and adjust it to the specific environment. 2.The wave absorbing technologies based on the absorbing cells of fin type designed for dispersing the wave by modifying the water particle motion and by producing counteracted waves that diminish the wave energy. At the same time they produce counteracted forces within the cells minimizing the overall forces on the body of the wave absorber. Based on the wave absorbing technology we produce floating wave absorbers on INFLO platforms, floating wave absorbers on free floating platforms, wave absorbing docks of bottom supported type etc. 3.Wave energy exploitation. The system, instead of dispersing the wave energy, as is the case with the wave absorbers, it converts it to compressed air through a mechanism (Wave Converter – WECO) that transforms the stochastic wave movement to a continually useful motion. The system is in many respects innovative and promises low energy costs and reliable operation under all circumstances. 4.Temporary energy storage systems in connection with renewable energy at sea. The system is developed to work with the wave energy system by storing the produced compressed air in air tanks of balloon type anchored at the sea bottom. The system can work also with wind power in a hybrid mode in which electricity produced during night, is stored in the air tanks and used during day, at peak demand, to produce electricity. 5.Ride control system for fast and superfast ships based on ventilated foils of mixed construction.The company holds the rights for a number of patents developed internally which were mentioned elsewhere in this leaflet. Our present research program includes the following projects:1.System integration for wave energy exploitation (submitted to the General Secretariat for Research and Development of Greece with the participation of CRES). 2.Design and construction of a pilot unit of 500 KW for electricity production from waves.3.Development of energy storage systems in the form of compressed air in air tanks of balloon type and methods for exploiting multiple renewable energy sources.4.Construction, testing and operating of a floating platform equipped wit a foldable tower for wind potential evaluation at sea.5.Development of methodology and software for wind measurements corrections due to movements of a floating platform.
