Την Παρασκευή, 17 Νοεμβρίου η εικόνα της «Παναγίας της Καρδιώτισσας», που

αναβλύζει μύρο, θα μεταφερθεί στην Οττάβα από την Πενσυλβανία. Η εικόνα θα εκτεθεί για

προσκύνημα στον Ορθόδοξο ιερό ναό «Σωτήρος Χριστού» στη διεύθυνση at 721 Somerset

St. West. Είστε όλοι ευπρόσδεκτοι να επισκεφθείτε το ναό και να προσκυνήσετε την εικόνα.

Ο ναός θα είναι ανοιχτός από 7 μ.μ. έως 11 μ.μ. και, καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια του

προσκυνήματος, θα γίνεται προσευχή. Παρακαλούμε λάβετε υπόψη ότι το πάρκινγκ του

ναού είναι μόνο για τους ιερείς αλλά υπάρχει αρκετό πάρκινγκ στο δρόμο με δίχως

χρέωση μετά από τις 7 το βράδυ.

Fr. Alex and the Board of Directors would like to thank our Seniors Association for reuphol-

stering the twelve armchairs in the entryway of the Banquet Centre and for re-staining the front

doors to the exterior of our Church. We would also like to thank Mrs. Panteleakos for initiating

the purchase of the new refrigerator in our Church basement and the following associations:

Arcadian, Cretan, Laconian, Panevoikon, Parnassos, and Samian, Ionian & Aegean Islands for

contributing monies for the purchase of the refrigerator. Without the love, caring and assistance

of our volunteers, we would not be able to maintain our Church-Community as beautifully as

we do.

θα μπορούσαμε να διατηρούμε τόσο όμορφο τον ιερό μας ναό.

Congratulations to our parishioner and Ottawa Maids of Athena, Marissa Athena Lithopoulos,

a PhD student in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at uOttawa! Marissa was

recently awarded a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) – Frederick Banting and

Charles Best Graduate Scholarship Doctoral Award to continue her studies in regenerative

medicine. Additionally, on behalf of Dr. Bernard Thébaud’s lab, Marissa won the “People’s

Choice”Award on October 15, 2017, by garnering the most number of votes on facebook for

her submission of the “Supernova Tango” stem cell image from their lab. Thank you to the

many, many Ottawa Hellenic community members who took the time to vote in this contest on

facebook!! Special shout out goes to Mr. James Hutchison (Montreal AHEPA) and to Theodora

Mourdoukoutas and the Ottawa Hellenic Student’s Association for sharing the stem cell image

and for obtaining almost 100 extra facebook votes. Thank you for your overwhelming support,

Φιλόπτωχος Αδελφότης – Pajama Drive Η Φιλόπτωχος Αδελφότης, για τέταρτη κατά σειρά χρονιά, διοργανώνει Pajama Drive και

σας καλεί να την στηρίξετε. Όπως και τα προηγούμενα χρόνια, η προσπάθεια αυτή

αποβλέπει στο να συγκεντρωθούν πιτζάμες για παιδιά των οποίων οι οικογένειες

αντιμετωπίζουν φτώχεια, εθισμό, ενδοοικογενειακή βία και θέματα ψυχικής υγείας. Μέσω

αυτού του προγράμματος, μπορείτε να συμβάλετε σε έναν «πιο ζεστό και πιο όμορφο ύπνο»

για αυτά τα παιδιά. Οι πιτζάμες πρέπει να είναι για παιδιά ηλικίας 3 μηνών έως και 12 ετών

και, επιπλέον, να είναι καινούργιες και αμεταχείριστες. Μπορείτε να αφήνετε τις πιτζάμες:

τις Κυριακές στο χωλ του ναού, στο γραφείο του ιερού ναού κατά τη διάρκεια της

εβδομάδας και στο Ελληνικό Σχολείο τα Σάββατα. Εάν δεν έχετε χρόνο να ψωνίσετε οι

ίδιοι, μπορείτε να δώσετε τη δωρεά σας στην Φιλόπτωχο που θα φροντίσει κάνει την αγορά

εκ μέρους σας.

Βοήθεια σε άπορες οικογένειες επ’ ευκαιρία των Εορτών

Εάν θέλετε να συνεισφέρετε στην προσπάθεια της Φιλοπτώχου να βοηθήσει άπορες

οικογένειες κατά την περίοδο των Εορτών, παρακαλείσθε να φέρετε τρόφιμα, που

διατηρούνται εκτός ψυγείου, πριν από τις 14 Δεκεμβρίου. Με την δική σας βοήθεια θα

δώσουμε χαρά σε πολλές οικογένειες και εφέτος τα Χριστούγεννα. Επίσης, εάν θα

μπορούσατε να βοηθήσετε, στις 16 Δεκεμβρίου, στη μεταφορά των μπασκετών στις

οικογένειες αυτές παρακαλείσθε να επικοινωνήσετε με την Αργυρώ Λαύκα στο 613-739-

8177.

Επισκευές επί της λεωφόρου Prince of Wales Όπως θα έχετε ήδη δει, κατά μήκος και

των δύο πλευρών της Prince of Wales, έχουν αναρτηθεί σήματα απαγόρευσης στάθμευσης

τα οποία ισχύουν από Δευτέρα έως και Παρασκευή. Παρακαλούμε να σταθμεύετε στον

κοινοτικό χώρο στάθμευσης, κατά τη διάρκεια της εβδομάδας.

Όσοι από εσάς έχετε κλειδί για το ασανσέρ του ναού και δεν το χρειάζεστε πια,

παρακαλούμε να το παραδώσετε στην Εκκλησιαστική Επιτροπή ή στο γραφείο του ναού.

Η.Ο.Ρ.Ε. – Ομάδα παιδιών προσχολικής ηλικίας – 18 Νεομβρίου

Η ομάδα παιδιών προσχολικής ηλικίας, (Νεογέννητα έως και 5 χρονών) θα

πραγματοποιηθεί το Σάββατο, 18 Νοεμβρίου και προσκαλείσθε στην είσοδο του Jack Pine

Trail (Moodie Drive) στις 2 μ.μ.. Μπορείτε να φέρετε τα καρότσια των παιδιών.

Παρακαλείσθε να φέρετε δικά σας σνακς. Εμείς θα φέρουμε σπόρους έτσι ώστε τα παιδιά

Σύλλογος Αρκάδων – Εκλογές και Γενική Συνέλευση 3 Δεκεμβρίου

Epistle of St. Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians: 9: 6-11

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

Verse: What shall I render to the Lord for all that he has given me?

Brethren, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows

bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not

reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide

you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything

and may provide in abundance for every good work. As it is written, "He scatters abroad, he

gives to the poor; his righteousness endures for ever." He who supplies seed to the sower and

bread for food will supply and multiply your resources and increase the harvest of your

righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will

produce thanksgiving to God.

But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied,

"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped

him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going

down that road; and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite,

when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he

journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion, and went to

him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast

and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii

and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I

The Arcadian Association invites all its members and friends to an enjoyable Christmas Dinner

Philoptochos - Pajama Drive Please help the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society for the 4th year provide new cozy

pajamas to children in need in Ottawa and the Greater Ottawa Valley. Through the Pajama

Drive, you are contributing to a warmer, more loving bedtime. The pajamas are to be new

and unused, a complete set from newborn to 12 years old for boys and girls. Please feel

free to drop off pajamas on Sundays in the Church Hall; during the week in the Church

office; or on Saturdays at Greek School. No time to shop, please make a donation to

Philoptochos for pajamas and we will buy them for you.

Christmas Baskets

The Ladies of Philoptochos are organizing their annual ‘Christmas Basket’ program for

needy families in the Ottawa area. If you are able to contribute, please bring non-

perishable food items to the church by December 16th. With your assistance, we can

cheer up the homes of many families again this Christmas. We are also in search of drivers

to deliver the baskets on December 16th. If you can assist, please contact Argiro Lafkas at

613-739-8177.

key, please return it to one of the Church Committee Members on Sunday or to the Church

Prince of Wales Construction Update Please note that no parking signs have been

posted along Prince of Wales. Parking will not be allowed on either side of Prince of

Wales Monday through Friday. Please make sure to park in our parking lot. Thank you.

Announcements

On Friday, November 17th, the Kardiotissa icon, a myrrh-streaming icon of the

Theotokos, will be brought to Ottawa from Pennsylvania. All are welcome to visit Christ

the Saviour Orthodox Church to venerate the icon. The church will be open from 7:00 to

11:00 p.m. with prayer services ongoing throughout the evening. The church is located at

721 Somerset St. West. Please be advised that the church parking lot will be reserved for

clergy only; however, there is ample street parking available for free after 7:00 p.m..

H.O.P.E. Play Group (newborn to 5 years of age) – November 18th This co-operative and welcoming group will be meeting on Saturday, November 18th at

2:00 p.m. We invite families to join us at Jack Pine Trail on Moodie Drive at the entrance

of the trail. We will supply the bird seed for the chickadees. The trail is stroller friend-

ly. Please remember to bring your own snack. In case of inclement weather, our alternate

meeting place will be at Kids Kingdom Recreation/Play Centre (66 Hearst Way, Kanata,

K2L 2P4.)

Daughters of Penelope – Absolute Comedy Fundraiser – November 16th

The Ottawa Daughters of Penelope invites everyone to its Absolute Comedy Fundraiser.

The hilarious show and great atmosphere will be on Thursday, November 16th at Absolute

Comedy (412 Preston Street). Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.

“The Lives & Writings of the Holy Fathers of the Church” - November 23rd

The next session in our Adult Orthodox Christian Education Program “The Lives &

Writings of the Holy Fathers of the Church” will be about St. Basil the Great (His works)

on Thursday, November 23rd from 7:30-9:00 p.m. All sessions will be in English and are

intended for adults, however children over 14 are welcome to attend. For any further in-

Arcadian Association – Elections and General Assembly - December 3rd

Οn Sunday, December 3, following the Divine Liturgy and until 5:30 p.m. at the Banquet

Centre, the Arcadian Association will hold Εlections (12-5:30 p.m.) and General

Assembly (5:30 p.m.). You may send your nominations to the Arcadian Association

Elections Committee (1315 Prince of Wales Dr.) by mail or bring to the Community

Offices. Submission deadline November 30th at 4:00 p.m. All Arcadians are welcome to

vote and participate at the General Assembly.

What to do with Our Anxieties

When we are concerned about others, the best thing we can do is to place

our anxieties in God’s care and keeping. What we cannot do for another, God can.

Dietrich Bonhoffer* wrote, “From the moment we awake until we fall

asleep we must relinquish our loved ones wholly and unreservedly to God and leave

them in His hands, transforming our anxiety for them into prayers on their behalf.”

A man in great trouble was nevertheless able to sleep each night. Someone

asked him how he could sleep under such stress; and he answered, “I’ve handed the

matter over to the Lord, who never slumbers or sleeps. There’s no use both of us

staying awake all night.”

The key that opens the door to let the peace of God come flowing into our

hearts is relinquishment: the placing of ourselves and our loved ones together with

all our worries, problems, fears and anxieties in the all-powerful hands of a God

who loves and cares about the smallest detail of our life.

Όταν η έγνοια για κάποιον άλλον μας προκαλεί άγχος, το καλύτερο που έχουμε να

κάνουμε είναι να εμπιστευθούμε αυτή την έγνοια στο Θεό. Γιατί, εκείνο που δεν μπορούμε

να κάνουμε εμείς το μπορεί ο Θεός.

Ο Dietrich Bonhoffer* έγραψε κάποτε: "Από τη στιγμή που θα ξυπνήσουμε μέχρι

τη στιγμή που θα ξανακοιμηθούμε πρέπει να αφήνουμε στα χέρια τού Θεού και να

μετατρέπουμε σε προσευχές την έγνοια μας για τα αγαπημένα μας πρόσωπα".

Κάποτε, ένας άνθρωπος είχε πολλά προβλήματα. Παρ' όλ' αυτά, κοιμόταν ήσυχος

τα βράδια. Κάποιος, λοιπόν, τον ρώτησε πώς μπορεί να κοιμάται ενώ είχε τόσες έγνοιες κι

εκείνος απάντησε: "Παραδίνω τις υποθέσεις μου στον Κύριο που ποτέ δεν νυστάζει και

ποτέ δεν κοιμάται. Δεν υπάρχει λόγος να μείνουμε άγρυπνοι κι οι δυο μας όλη νύχτα".

Το κλειδί, που ανοίγει την πόρτα της γαλήνης, είναι το να αφήσουμε τον εαυτό μας,

τα αγαπημένα μας πρόσωπα, τις ανησυχίες, τα προβλήματα, τους φόβους και τα άγχη

μας στα παντοδύναμα χέρια Τού Θεού ο οποίος φροντίζει και για τις μικρότερες

λεπτομέρειες της ζωής μας.
