ο multifunctional S Silicon Chemical "LINDE" ïiiYL TRICHLOROSILANE CH 2 = CHSiCl3 available for the first time in pilot-plant quantities This unsaturated organosilicon "build- ing-block" exhibits chemical reactivity characteristic of vinyl compounds. Ease of addition to the vinyl double bond, suggests this silane as a new means of introducing a silicon radical into vari- ous organic molecules. Copolymerization of vinyl trichloro- silane with other vinyl monomers yields polymers which can be cross-linked by hydrolysis and condensation. Reac- tions of the vinyl group with other compounds can be carried out either prior to, or after forming the silicones. Vinyl trichlorosilane is one of many organosilicon compounds, including aryl and alkyl trichlorosilanes and esters, which are now available in drum quantities from LINDE. Wt(te to the New Products Division for research samples and additional in- formation on vinyl trichlorosilane and other "Linde" trichlorosilanes. The term "Linde" is a registered trade- mark of The Linde Air Products Company. ACS Membership Drive A. \V. Scholl, head of the chemistry de- partment of Marshall College, Huntington, W.
