Mitered Bends(calculations according to CAESAR II, Application Guide, page 2-8, ASME B31.1 par. 104-3.3)
Bend angle = 90 deg.Bend radius R = 1000 mmNumber of cuts N = 3 cutsOne half the angle between adjacent miter cuts (=a/(2N)) = 15 deg. < 22,5 deg
> 1,29 degMitter spacing (S = 2R tan) S = 535,90 mm
where,Average pipe cross section radius, r = (ri+ro)/2 r = 490 mmPIPE:Outside pipe radius ro = 500 mmPipe thickness t = 10,000 mmInside pipe radius ri = 480 mm
= 621,30 mm
S < => Mitered bend is closely spaced
Length of miter segment at crotch B = S-2rtan= 273 mm > 60 mm
According to ASME B31.3 (table D-1) : > 6 tn
If mitered bend is widely spaced, the reduced mitered bend radius is needed to define widely spaced bends in CAESAR II.
MITERED BEND 1 CUT, WIDELY SPACED .
In CAESAR II widely spaced miters must be entered as individual, single cut miters, each having a bend radius equal to:R = r (1+cot) / 2 = 1159,35 mm(cot = tan(90-)) = 90 deg. = 3 cuts = a/2N = 15 deg.r = 490 mm
Coordinate (x=S sin(a/N)) x = 268 mmCoordinate (y=S cos(a/N)) y = 464 mm
(x,y horizontal axis on the plane of the bend)

Mitered bends are closely spaced if : S < r (1+tan)
