Learn Italian at Somaiya CentreThe Italian Embassy Cultural Centre shy New Delhi Mumbai and the Somaiya Centre forLifelong Learning are happy to announce a new batch of Italian classes

The first meeting is a free introductory lecture open to allSubsequently there will be six sessions of two hours each (12 hours total)Timings of classes will be decided with the students

If you already have a knowledge of Italian and wish to brush it up or you are a beginnerand wish to start please come to the introductory lecture We are happy to opencourses at all levels if we have a minimum number of students

COURSE OBJECTIVES The objective of the beginners (A1) course is to provide students with the abilities and skillsrequired for simple and essential conversation in the most common and familiar situations At theend of the course the student will be able to understand and use everyday expressions and basicsentences concerning himself his family and his immediate concrete surroundings He will beable to introduce himself and others and to ask and answer questions concerning personalinformation such where he lives the people he knows and his possessions He will be able tointeract in a simple way provided the other person is prepared to repeat or rephrase things at aslower rate of speech and help him formulate what he is trying to say It is estimated that order toachieve a basic level of Italian or A1 you need to attend classesstudy for 100 hours

COURSE METHODS The learner is at the centre of the learningteaching process Understanding the needsmotivations characteristics and resources of adult learners is of paramount importance All theteaching takes into account the particular needs and circumstances of mature students and thework and life experience that they bring to their studies The teacher has a flexible attitude to thecourse content and responds to the needs and interests of the class Classes will be a mix ofdiscussions and practical exercises Students are expected to submit a small number of homeassignments Lessons include active learning methods such as problemshysolving exercises aswell as individual and group activities These give students the opportunity to developtransferable skills that shall help them succeed in a variety of fields Lessons are generallyoriented towards teaching particular notions language functions or skills and are productive orreceptive in either the spoken or written medium
