In this issue…….. Letter From The President Dear Sisters,

What a busy and successful year we have had with the alumnae chapter and Delta Omicron

The fourth line of the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose states, “To cherish friendships with but a

chosen few and to study the perfecting of those friendships.” I had to do my first AΓΔ Memorial Ser-

vice for Kalynn Cole, who was an alumna sister of Delta Omicron that passed away on January 21,

2015. She was 27 years old and fought a long battle with Cystic Fibrosis. I know Kalynn was a true

Alpha Gamma Delta by all of the sisters that showed up for the Service (one of our biggest turnouts)

and the things they said about her. RIP Kalynn Cole, you are missed by many.

Alpha Gamma Delta has brought together women who otherwise wouldn’t have met, and

binds us together with three letters. We have made friends that will last a lifetime no matter where we

end up. All of the women that we have laughed and cried with will hold a bond that no one else can

break. Sisters that we have not even met yet will be there for us.

Thank you to the Las Vegas Area Alumnae Chapter Officers, Committee Members, and

everyone who supports the alumnae chapter! I look forward to another year with everyone! I welcome

your comments, suggestions, and involvement.

Arc of Epsilon Pi

The honor of the Arc of Epsilon

Pi has been awarded to Rachel

Rizzi in 2014. The Arc of

Epsilon Pi is bestowed upon an

alumna member who has given

faithful, continued and

outstanding service of not less

than five consecutive years to

a collegiate chapter, to an

alumnae chapter or club, to a

province, to the International

Fraternity or a combination of

such service. Congratulations

Rachel!

Alumnae Awards Recipients

This year the Las Vegas Area Alumnae Chapter awarded several sisters for their outstanding service to our fraternity! Michelle Nicholl was this

years recipient of the Red Rose award for outstanding service to the collegiate chapter. Nicole Drooger was awarded with the Yellow Rose

Award for outstanding service to the alumnae chapter. We also honored three sisters with a new award, The Heart of Alpha Gamma Delta, recognizing Nicole Drooger, Jakke Farley, and Michelle Nicholl

for their significant, dependable, and faithful service to Alpha Gamma Delta. Congrats to all of the recipients!

SNAP News

The Spring 2015 Southern Nevada Alumnae Panhellenic

Scholarship was awarded to Delta Omicron sister, Catherine Chao!

Please encourage undergraduate Greek women to apply this year!

Nicole Drooger is transitioning off of the board, having served the last

year as immediate past President. Anyone interested in becoming

involved in Panhellenic is welcome to join Nicole at the next meeting

April 14, 2015 at 6:30 p.m.

SNAP is also requesting your help with their fundraising event

for Brandolyn’s Gift @ Child Haven. Many of the older children in the

system aren’t afforded the luxuries other teens are used to. This

charity will allow the children to pick out the items they would like and

take them with them wherever they are placed. As women, and many

mothers we can understand the importance of personal hygiene

products at such a vulnerable age.

For young ladies: make-up of any

kind, lotion, shower gel, deodorant,

perfume, body spray, shampoo, con-

ditioner, hairspray, gel (special need

for ethnic hair products), nail polish,

face wash, acne treatment, cosmetic

bags, any other similar items

For young men: shower gel, body

spray, lotion, cologne, shampoo,

conditioner, gel (Special need for

ethnic hair products), face wash, acne

treatment, foot powder

Please contact Nicole Drooger before April 10, 2015 to coordinate donations

On September 13th, 2014 the alumnae chapter honored

25 and 50 year members. Many of the 25 year members

were Delta Omicron founding members!

Alpha Gam Always

The annual Alpha Gam Always event in August was a great success. It’s

always great to end the summer with such a fun sisterhood event!

Alumnae President Nicole Drooger attended International

Convention July 9-12 in Indianapolis on behalf of the alumnae

chapter. She was able to connect with sisters from around the US

& Canada, as well as sisters from her initiating chapter, and was

able to learn many new things that will be helpful to the alumnae

chapter!

Taco Tuesday!

Junior Circle had it’s first event of 2015 on February 24th! Ten sisters attended Taco Tuesday at Baja Bar & Grill. We can’t

wait for the next event in March!

Please help us welcome Wendy Arrowsmith to Alpha Gamma Delta!

She was an alumna initiate at Delta Omicron’s November Initiation.

Her daughter, Charlotte Arrowsmith, (PC 2010) was a former chapter

president for Delta Omicron and inspired her mom to join Alpha

Gamma Delta. Welcome Wendy, we are so excited to have you as a

sister, and to have you both as part of the alumnae chapter!

A note about support fees….. On behalf of the alumnae chapter, thank you to our faithful due paying mem-bers. Your support fees are necessary to continue the events and programs, such as the ones highlighted on this page, that we offer. As we all strive to live the Purpose of ΑΓΔ through our programs and supporting Delta Omicron, We encourage you to walk along side of us and invite you to become a dues paying member today. The dues we collect have been used to make dona-tions to our Foundation, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and to fellow Alpha Gams in need. Dues are also used for other purposes such as the amazing food provided by the alumnae chapter at our events! Dues are $40.00 per year and can be mailed to Michelle Sosa at anytime (133 Arbor Way, Henderson, NV 89074).

Alumni? Alumnae? Alumna?

Have you ever wondered why all of our fraternity news uses alumnae, and University news uses alumni? The explanation is actu-ally quite simple. These Latin loanwords preserve their original plural

forms, and incorrect use of the words abounds because many speakers of English are understandably unfamiliar with the genders

and plurals of Latin nouns. Alumni is a plural noun referring either to a group male graduates or to a group of both male and female

graduates. Alumna refers to one female graduate, and the plural alumnae refers to a group of female graduates.

Helping our fellow sisters….. As many of you know, this past year our sisters at the Alpha Beta and Upsilon

Chapter were greatly affected by house fires. Some of our alumnae sisters

got together to make a few blankets, plaques, and personalized letters to

give a little touch of home back to our sisters. We were

happy to find out the items were received and greatly

appreciated! Thank you to Nicole Drooger, Aimee Fuller, Irini Gaglos,

Mckenzie Hall, and Kaylanie Velarde for making this happen!

Wedding Bells! Run Alpha Gams, Run! On November 7-8, 2014 Andrea Stevens

Lombardo and Michelle Schwer Nicholl ran together in the Las Vegas Ragnar Relay

Race. The Ragnar Relay is when 12 friends pile into two vans and tag team running

189 miles, day and night, relay-style around Las Vegas and Henderson. Only one runner hits the road at a time. Each

participant runs three times, with each leg ranging between 3-10 miles and varying in difficulty. Over the two days Andrea ran 14 miles and Michelle ran 20 miles. The relay started at the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort and ended at the Red Rock Casino. It was a great way to spend time as Alpha

Gam sisters!

Kudos Alyssa!

Our alumnae secretary Alyssa Horton received

a promotion this year, and is now a literacy

coach at her school. Congrats on your

achievement!

We are very sad to share the news that one of our Alumnae Sisters from Delta Omicron, Kalynn Cole, passed away January 21, 2015. Kalynn suffered from Cystic Fibrosis from age 11. She joined

Delta Omicron in 2007 and left school in 2009 when she got very sick. Kalynn served as VP Finance as an undergraduate and then served a short time as VP Finance Advisor before going back to Cali-

fornia for treatment. Her mom Gigi said "Thank you for letting the alumna from AΓΔ know about Kalynn. AΓΔ meant a lot to her and she loved being a part of it. While she struggled with her health the girls were there for her and she really loved doing the financials. It just seemed that every time she started she got sick.” This was posted by her parents, "At 1am Kalynn Cole walked into the arms of Jesus. She spent the last day surrounded by the loving nurses who took care of her and her fami-ly. She left us with grace and dignity and we are thankful. She is free from pain and able to breath, what a glorious gift for her. Thank you Lord for 27 wonderful years with an amazing young woman,

thank you for trusting us enough to care for her." We held a Memorial Service for Kalynn on January 22nd in the UNLV Student Union. Many sisters were in attendance. You will be missed Kalynn!

Gifts are requested to be donated to Kalynn’s endowment:

https://netcommunity.unlv.edu/givetobusiness Put in the amount you want to give, choose Accounting in the pull down menu, then click on "add donation". On the next page they should fill out the information. At the bottom of that page, there is a section called "Tribute Information". Choose "in memory of" under the pull down box, then put Kalynn's name in the box below that. If someone wants to write a check, they would write the check to the UNLV Foundation and in the memo line, put "Accounting - In memory of Kalynn Cole" and send it to:
