4. Places of Events Asclepieion Kos It is one of the longest living sightseeing monuments of Greece and the most important and most impressive of the island. It was spotted by Koan antiquary J. Zarraftis in 1902 and excavated by the German archaeologist R. Herzog. It was arranged in three terraces (levels). 5. Greek-Roman OdeumThe Odeum was constructed in the 3rd CA.D and was excavated and restored byItalians in 1929. It has, also, been recentlyrestored by the Archaeological Service.The Odeum is approximately 32 metreslong, 26 metres wide, and 6 metres high.Here you will nd 18 marble steps of seatswhich are in excellent condition. Theconstruction of this amphitheatre was basedon vaulted arcades and inside these arcadeswere found some valuable and ancientstatues, including the one of Hippocrates,which is now housed in the museum in Kostown. From the stage, the frontstage andthe backstage remain intact as well as partof the three entrances.The orchestra is circular and the oor isdecorated with marble.
