Απολυτίκιο της Αγίας Τριάδος - Hymn of the Holy Trinity

Ευλογητός εί, Χριστέ ο Θεός ημών, ο πανσόφους τους αλιείς αναδείξας,

καταπέμψας αυτοίς το Πνεύμα το Άγιον, και δι᾽ αυτών την οικουμένην

σαγηνεύσας, φιλάνθρωπε, δόξα σοι.

Blessed are You, O Christ our God. You made the fishermen all-wise by sending

down upon them the Holy Spirit, and through them You drew the world into Your

net. O lover of mankind, glory to You.

The Ascension of Christ

If there had not been many dwelling places in the house of God the Father, our Lord would have told

us that he was going on ahead to prepare the dwelling places of the saints. He knew, however, that

many such dwelling places already prepared were awaiting the arrival of those who love God.

Therefore, he did not give this as the reason for his departure, but rather his desire to open the way for

our ascent to those heavenly places and to prepare a safe passage for us by making smooth the road

that had previously been impassible. For heaven was then completely inaccessible to us — human foot

had never trodden that pure and holy country of the angels. It was Christ who first prepared the way for

our ascent there. By offering himself to God the Father as the first fruits of all who are dead and buried,

he gave us a way of entry into heaven and was himself the first human being the inhabitants of heaven

ever saw. The angels in heaven, knowing nothing of the sacred and profound mystery of the

incarnation, were astonished at his coming and almost thrown into confusion by an event so strange

and unheard of. "Who is this coming from Edom?" they asked; that is, from the earth. But the Spirit did

not leave the heavenly throng ignorant of the wonderful wisdom of God the Father. Commanding them

to open the gates of heaven in honor of the King and Master of the universe, he cried out: "Lift up your

gates, you princes, and be lifted up you everlasting doors, that the king of glory may come in."

And so our Lord Jesus Christ has opened up for us a new and living way, as Paul says, "not by

entering a sanctuary made with hands, but by entering heaven itself to appear before God on our

behalf." For Christ has not ascended in order to make his own appearance before God the Father. He

was, is, and ever will be in the Father and in the sight of him from whom he receives his being, for he is

his Father’s unfailing joy. But now the Word, who had never before been clothed in human nature, has

ascended as a man to show himself in a strange and unfamiliar fashion. And he has done this on our

account and in our name, so that being like us, though with his power as the Son, and hearing the

command, "Sit at my right hand," as a member of our race, he might transmit to all of us the glory of

being children of God. For since he became man it is as one of us that he sits at the right hand of God

the Father, even though he is above all creation and one in substance with his Father, having truly

come forth from him as God from God and Light from Light.

As man then he appeared before the Father on our behalf, to enable us whom the ancient

transgression had excluded from his presence once more to see the Father’s face. As the Son he took

his seat to enable us as sons and daughters through him to be called children of God. So Paul, who

claims to speak for Christ, teaching that the whole human race has a share in the events of Christ’s

life, says that "God has raised us up with him and enthroned us with him in heaven." To Christ as the

Son by nature belongs the prerogative of sitting at the Father’s side; this honor can rightly and truly be

ascribed to him alone. Yet because his having become man means that he sits there as one who is in

all respects like ourselves, as well as being as we believe God from God, in some mysterious way he

passes this honor on to us.

Η Ψυχολογική Σημασία της Συμμετοχής μας στις Παραδόσεις μας για το Πάσχα - Συνεχίζοντας τις Παραδόσεις μας στην Οικογένεια και την Ελληνορθόδοξη

Κοινότητα μας Διαβάζοντας το παρακάτω κείμενο, αν προσθέσουμε την λέξη “κοινότητα” δίπλα στην λέξη “οικογένεια” θα καταλάβουμε ποσό σημαντικές είναι οι παραδόσεις μας στην ταυτότητα μας. Η μεγάλη γιορτή του Πάσχα φέρνει χαρούμενους συνειρμούς στο μυαλό, με την κατάνυξη της Μεγάλης Εβδομάδας, τις λαμπάδες των πιστών, τα αναστάσιμα πυροτεχνήματα, τις χαρμόσυνες καμπάνες, το πασχαλινό αρνί και τα κόκκινα αβγά, αλλά και την ομορφιά της φύσης που είναι καταπράσινη και ανθισμένη. Το ελληνικό Πάσχα, όπως και οι περισσότερες γιορτές, χαρακτηρίζεται από μια σειρά παραδόσεων κι εθίμων, τα οποία οδηγούν στον εορτασμό της μεγάλης γιορτής. Πέρα από τα ήθη και έθιμα του τόπου, που συχνά τα συναντάμε διαφοροποιημένα σε διαφορετικές περιοχές της Ελλάδας, κάθε οικογένεια δημιουργεί τα δικά της τελετουργικά και τις ιδιαίτερες οικογενειακές της παραδόσεις που τη χαρακτηρίζουν. Τι είναι τα οικογενειακά τελετουργικά; Το οικογενειακό τελετουργικό είναι ένας συμβολικός τρόπος επικοινωνίας που, εξαιτίας της ευχαρίστησης την οποία αντλούν από την επανάληψή του τα μέλη της οικογένειας, καθιερώνεται και με συστηματικό τρόπο επαναλαμβάνεται στο χρόνο. Μέσα από την ιδιαίτερη σημασία τους και την επαναληπτική φύση τους, τα τελετουργικά συμβάλλουν σε σημαντικό βαθμό στην καθιέρωση καθώς και στη διατήρηση της ομαδικής αίσθησης και του δεσμού μεταξύ των μελών της οικογένειας, η οποία ονομάζεται ‘οικογενειακή ταυτότητα’. Η οικογενειακή ταυτότητα είναι αυτή που προσφέρει τη σφραγίδα της μοναδικότητας και που βοηθά στη σύσφιξη των σχέσεων μεταξύ των μελών της οικογένειας, καθώς επίσης διατηρεί τη μοναδικότητά της και καθορίζει τα όρια από τις άλλες οικογένειες του συγγενικού, φιλικού, ή ευρύτερου κοινωνικού περιβάλλοντος. Η αίσθηση της οικογενειακής ταυτότητας πολλές φορές συμπυκνώνεται σε μια μόνο φράση ‘εμείς έτσι το κάναμε στο σπίτι μας’, που οι άνθρωποι χρησιμοποιούν κατά κώρον όταν έρθουν αντιμέτωποι με νέες απαιτήσεις για απλά ζητήματα από το πως να μαγειρέψουν ένα φαγητό μέχρι πιο σύνθετα ζητήματα, όπως πως να γιορτάσουν μια συγκεκριμένη γιορτή. Τα τελετουργικά λοιπόν σταθεροποιούν την οικογενειακή ταυτότητα σε όλη τη διάρκεια της οικογενειακής ζωής, ξεκαθαρίζοντας τους προσδοκόμενους ρόλους, καθορίζοντας όρια μέσα αλλά κι έξω από την οικογένεια και ορίζοντας κανόνες ώστε όλα τα μέλη της οικογένειας να γνωρίζουν ότι «έτσι είναι η δική μας οικογένεια». Σύγχρονη ζωή και παραδοσιακά ήθη κι έθιμα Ίσως με μια πρώτη ματιά να φαίνεται σαν μια έντονη αντίθεση, από τη μια μεριά οι απαιτήσεις και οι ρυθμοί της σύγχρονης, τεχνολογικά προηγμένης, ζωής και από την άλλη τα παραδοσιακά ήθη κι έθιμα, που παραπέμπουν σε παλαιότερες εποχές και διαφορετικές κοινωνικές δομές. Στην πραγματικότητα, όμως, πρόκειται για ένα ιδιαίτερα επιτυχημένο ‘πάντρεμα’ διαφορετικών αναγκών του ανθρώπου σήμερα. Οι οικογενειακές παραδόσεις είναι σημαντικές για κάθε ηλικιακή ομάδα και, μάλιστα, έχουν διαφορετικό νόημα και βοηθούν σε ξεχωριστές ψυχολογικές λειτουργίες ανάλογα με την ηλικία του μέλους της οικογένειας. (Συνέχεια) Στην παιδική ηλικία, οι οικογενειακές παραδόσεις και τα τελετουργικά είναι ιδιαίτερα σημαντικά, γιατί συμβάλλουν στην αίσθηση σιγουριάς, συνέχειας και συνέπειας, τόσο απαραραίτη για την ψυχολογική ισορροπία ενός παιδιού. Τα τελετουργικά αυτά μπορεί να ξεκινούν από κάτι πολύ απλό, όπως για παράδειγμα το να διαβάσει ο γονιός στο παιδί ένα βιβλίο πριν αυτό πέσει για ύπνο, μέχρι και να περιλαμβάνουν πολύ πιο σύνθετα τελετουργικά, τα οποία γίνονται μόνο μία φορά το χρόνο, όπως αυτά που συνδέονται με τον εορτασμό κάποιας μεγάλης γιορτής, όπως το Πάσχα. Για του εφήβους, οι οικογενειακές παραδόσεις αποτελούν τη συνέχεια από την παιδική τους ηλικία στο δρόμο προς την ενηλικίωση. Η παρουσία των οικογενειακών παραδόσεων βοηθάει τον έφηβο να αναθερμάνει τις σχέσεις του με την οικογένεια αλλά και με τους συγγενείς του. Μέσα από αυτή την ψυχοκοινωνική διαδικασία, τίθενται ορισμένες προσδοκίες για τον έφηβο, καθώς μεταβαίνει από την παιδική ηλικία στην ενηλικίωση, αλλά και δημιουργούνται οι προϋποθέσεις που του δείχνουν τι σημαίνει η έννοια της οικογενειακής ζωής και των υποχρεώσεων που αυτή συνεπάγεται. Η περίοδος των γιορτών και οι οικογενειακές παραδόσεις βοηθούν τον έφηβο -ακόμα και αυτόν που περνάει κάποιες δυσκολίες ή κάνει την επανάστασή του- να επανασυνδεθεί με τους γονείς, τους συγγενείς, να ξανανιώσει την οικογενειακή θαλπωρή και να θυμηθεί τις χαρές της παιδικής ηλικίας, μαζί με την υπόσχεση που αυτές ενέχουν, ότι δηλαδή μπορεί να ξαναδημιουργηθούν και σε άλλες φάσεις της ζωής του. Για τους ενήλικες, η ύπαρξη τελετουργικών και παραδόσεων που διατηρούνται μέσα στην οικογένεια δίνει μια συναισθηματική διάσταση στη διαδικασία, αφού ο ενήλικας διατηρεί αυτά που ο ίδιος έμαθε στο πατρικό του σπίτι και στη συνέχεια τα μεταφέρει στο δικό του σπίτι και οικογένεια. Από την άλλη, καθώς οι ενήλικες κάνουν παραλλαγές ή προσαρμογές στις οικογενειακές παραδόσεις που κληρονόμησαν από την προηγούμενη γενιά, βάζουν κατά κάποιον τρόπο και τη δική τους σφραγίδα σε αυτό που θα παραδώσουν στην επόμενη γενιά, δηλαδή στα παιδιά τους. Με αυτό τον τρόπο η οικογενειακή ζωή και παράδοση συνεχίζεται και η ταυτότητα των μελών της οικογένειας διατηρείται. Για τους ηλικιωμένους, οι οικογενειακές παραδόσεις είναι μια ευκαιρία να προσεγγίσουν τη νεότερη γενιά, τα εγγόνια τους, να τους μεταδώσουν λίγη από τη σοφία και την εμπειρία που έχουν αποκομίσει με τα χρόνια και να συμβάλουν με αυτό τον τρόπο στην ενδυνάμωση των οικογενειακών σχέσεων και δεσμών. Με λίγα λόγια, η ύπαρξη οικογενειακών παραδόσεων είναι σημαντική για την ψυχολογική συνέχιση μιας οικογένειας και για τη σύνδεση των γενεών της. The Psychological Importance in Taking Part in our Easter Traditions - Continuing our Traditions in our Families and our Greek Orthodox Community

Reading this article, all we need to do is add the word “community” next to the word “family” to understand how important our traditions are to our identity. The great feast of Easter (Pascha) brings joyous associations to mind, with the solemnity of Holy Week, the candles of the faithful, the Resurrectional fireworks, the joyous bells, the Paschal lamb and the red eggs, as well as the completely green and flowery beauty of nature. Greek Easter, like most holidays, is characterized by a number of customs and traditions which lead to the the great feast. Beyond the manners and customs of a place, which we often find diversified in different areas of Greece, every family creates its own rituals and are characterized by their own special traditions. What are family rituals? Family rituals are a symbolic way of communication because of the pleasure family members derive from their repetition, and they are established and systematically repeated in time. Through their particular importance and recurring nature, the rituals have a significant role in establishing and maintaining a sense of a team bond between family members, which is called “family identity". The family identity is one that offers a stamp of uniqueness and helps in strengthening the relations between family members, as well as maintaining their uniqueness and defines the borders with the other families within the family, with friends, or with the broader social environment. The sense of family identity is often concentrated in a single phrase "this is how we do it at home", which people use at times when they are faced with new requirements for simple questions, from how to cook a meal to more complex issues such as how to celebrate a particular feast. Therefore, rituals stabilize the family identity throughout the entire life of the family, clarifying anticipated roles, setting boundaries within as well as outside the family, and establish rules that all family members know as "this is how our family is". Modern life and traditional customs and traditions Maybe at first glance it seems like a stark contrast, on the one hand having the demands and pace of modern technologically advanced life, and on the other you have traditional customs and traditions which recall earlier times and different social structures. In reality, however, there can be a highly successful "marriage" with the differing needs of people today. Family traditions are important for every age group and, indeed, have a different meaning and help in individual psychological functions depending on the age of the family member. In childhood, family traditions and rituals are particularly important because they contribute to the sense of security, continuity and consistency, which is so crucial for the psychological balance of a child. These rituals can start from something very simple, such as, for example, a parent reading a book to their child before they fall asleep, to including some ritual much more complex which may take place annually, such as those associated with a great feast, like Easter. (Continued) For teenagers, family traditions are a continuity with their childhood on the road to adulthood. The presence of family traditions helps the teenager rekindle their relationships with their family and with their relatives. Through this psychosocial process, certain expectations for the teenager are set, such as moving from childhood to adulthood, but also creating the conditions to show what is the meaning of family life and of the obligations it entails. The holiday season and family traditions help the teenager - even the one going through some difficulties and is going through a rebellion - to reunite with their parents and relatives, to once again feel the warmth of family and remember the joys of childhood years, along with the promises they pose, that they can be recreated in other phases of life. For adults, the existence of rituals and traditions that are kept within the family gives an emotional dimension to the process, since the adult retains what they learned in their childhood home and they carry them into their own home and family. On the other hand, as adults they do variations and adjustments to family traditions they inherited from the previous generation, somehow putting their own stamp on what they deliver to the next generation, that is, their children. In this way, family life and tradition continues and the identity of family members is maintained. For the elderly, the existence of family traditions are an opportunity to reach out to the younger generation, their grandchildren, and to impart some of their wisdom and experience they have gained over the years and in this way to contribute to strengthen family relationships and linkages. In short, the existence of family traditions are important for the psychological continuation of a family and connecting the generations. Establishing these relationships and traditions that emphasize the importance of belonging to ones family and their obligations to it creates a source of love, personal pride, and a sense of belonging, things that make life in a troubled world more beautiful.
