Alpha Chapter University of Michigan, MI

Recruitment season for the Alpha Chapter is finally here! At the beginning of each school year, the brothers of Phi Delta Chi actively seek out potential candidates during the first few weeks of school. As a result, our chapter holds many fun events to help new students understand what our organization is all about. One of our chapter’s favorite social gatherings is the annual baseball game. Each year, the chapter invites P1s and current brothers to attend a Detroit Tiger’s game at Comerica Park. This year we started our event at a restaurant with a rooftop which overlooked the baseball field. After grabbing some food and taking a group picture, we all made our way to the game where the brothers got the opportunity to tell the P1s more about PDC in a casual and fun setting. About 30 P1s came to the event and a majority of attendees also came to the first candidate meeting. The Alpha chapter is very proud of the turnout for this event and look forward to the beginning of candidacy season here at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. - Kim Pais [email protected]

Mu Chapter University of Pittsburg, MA

With one month of classes under our belts, we still have a long way to go. Even with the large number of tests and assignments we have had in the past month, the Brothers of Mu Chapter have been at large, tackling all sorts of fun and productive events. Recruitment, fundraising, St. Judes, and just spending time with our beloved brothers has been quite the task, but nothing that the Raiders can’t handle! Our back to school picnic recruitment event was a great success! It was a great time for some of our brothers who hadn’t seen each other over the summer to catch up and have a good time. We had some brothers grilling hot dogs and hamburgers, while others played football, cornhole, Kan Jam, you name it. Many of the incoming P1 students expressed an overwhelming amount of interest in PDC and we are very excited to get to know each of them. We also had a pizza lunch, wing night, and a cookout with LKS girls, and it seems like the new students are very eager to become Brothers of PDC. Though it will be a difficult year, the Brothers of Mu Chapter are looking forward to working with the new members and are excited to get them involved in our great organization! - Alex Miller [email protected]

Tau Chapter Purdue University, IN

It is recruitment season, and the Tau Chapter is gearing up to find a new set of candidates to join us this year! We were thrilled to have a great turnout at our initial showcase called the Purdue Pharmacy First-Nighter where we got to promote our chapter to everyone who is looking to get involved in the College of Pharmacy. After this, we hosted callouts so potential new members could learn more about Phi Delta Chi as a national organization as well as our campus chapter; these were also great opportunities for actives to chat with interested recruits and begin to get to know them. In the next few weeks we are going to have 5 separate events for recruits to attend as well; these include icebreakers, “speed-dating,” game night, a hangout/movie night, along with a professional interview with our WMA, WIG, and candidate facilitators. All of these will allow our chapter to find great candidates who will not only fit in with our dynamic but who will also be able to learn and grow as pharmacy professionals. We are all so excited to find new brothers to join our pharmacy family! - Lauren Johnson [email protected]

Alphi Phi Chapter Butler University, IN

The Alpha Phi chapter held two open recruitment events this year. First, the chapter hosted their annual Game Night, in which potential new members (PNMs) participated in various board or card games with brothers. The Worthy Master at Arms, Christina Thomas, and Worthy Inner Guard, Maria Muehrcke, presented on the basics of Phi Delta Chi, including the chapter’s brotherhood events, chapter support, and membership benefits. After a successful Game Night, the chapter attracted even more PNMs to the second open recruitment event, Pizza Night. The event is structured around a meal and short presentation from the leaders of the chapter. The executive team began by explaining their roles and the potential for significant leadership within the chapter. The committee heads followed, further explaining the each committee’s objectives and responsibilities. The presentation sparked numerous conversations regarding potential for involvement in the chapter and the opportunity for growth as a brother of Phi Delta Chi. The Alpha Phi chapter recruited 44 PNMs between these two events and extended invitations to 27 of these PNMs to the chapter’s Night Out recruitment event at the Old Spaghetti Factory in downtown Indianapolis. - Drew Johnson [email protected]

Beta Gamma St. John Fisher, NY

This upcoming weekend on September 23rd there are two service projects that members of our organization will be attending. They are both walks for a great cause, one being the St. Jude Walk to End Cancer, and the other being the JDRF Walk. For the St. Jude Walk, we are collaborating with our fellow Mu chapter to aid and support our national philanthropy. The JDRF Walk is a joint effort within our Duquesne’s School of Pharmacy to help support our professor’s son Liam who was diagnosed with severe Type-1 Diabetes last year at the age of 3. Additionally, we are collectively participating in a School of Pharmacy Penny War to help raise funds for continual efforts of research. Liam loves superheroes, so a few of our chapter’s members are dressing up as superheroes for this special event! - Sa’ed Al-Olimat [email protected]

Meet Liam. He is a T1D Warrior.

Gamma Zeta Chapter St. John Fisher, NY

To kick off the semester, we at Gamma Zeta have had several recruiting events targeting both the pharmacy students and early assurance prepharmacy students. One of our most successful events was the First Annual Redwings Baseball Recruitment Event. A group of brothers met up with the candidates at the ballpark and we all sat together and enjoyed a night of Friday night baseball. We titled this the “First Annual Redwings Baseball Recruitment Event” because it was wildly successful and we hope to continue it every year. Semi-professional baseball was a nice background for an intimate environment to get to know the candidates. It was very relaxing eating a hotdog in the stands and watching the local baseball team. One of the downsides to the evening was the fact that it was a fall night in Rochester, NY; once the sun went down the temperature went down with it. Despite being a cold and wet night, we had 10 of our candidates stay for the game and get to know all the brothers. It said quite a bit about the candidates, sitting out in the cold for 3 hours just to bond with a group of people really says a lot about their character. As we move forward, this event really gave us prospective on the quality of candidates we have. - Spencer Phillips [email protected]

Gamma Phi Chapter University of Findlay, OH

On September 13th we held our 5th Annual PDC Dip-Off. The Dip-Off is a recruitment event where members of Gamma Phi prepare different kinds of dips to be judged by the brothers and candidates. It’s a really fun event where we get to enjoy delicious food while getting to know the candidates a little better. This year, as always, the brothers did a great job of getting creative with the dips. The winner was a lasagna dip that three brothers made together, but we had a bunch of other great entries like monster cookie dough dip, pumpkin pie dip, chocolate mint Greek yogurt dip, and peanut butter brownie dip. This event is always a great opportunity to reintroduce the leaders in the fraternity to the candidates, have them introduce themselves to the group, and really work to connect with them individually and answer any questions. The candidates seemed to really enjoy this fun event, and it was the perfect opportunity for them to be able to get a feel for who we are and what the brotherhood is like. Overall it was a very successful event, and we can’t wait to do it again next year! - Lindsay Hall [email protected]
