    This feature article is aimed to summarize some research progresses on polymeric supramolecular systems in China, including mesogen-jacketed liquid crystalline polymers, non-covalent connected micelles, supramolecular self-assemblies from amphiphilic hyperbranched polymers, layer-by-layer assemblies, supramolecular polymers from controllable fabrication, and artificial molecular chaperones from controllable assembly.     Optoelectronic polymers, which are usually conjugated polymers and feature delocalised electrons along their π-conjugated backbones, have exhibited significant application potential in many fields, including polymer light-emitting diodes, polymer solar cells, polymer field effect transistors, chemo-/bio-sensors and cell imaging etc.

    In the past 40 years of the reform and opening-up, the Chinese mainland scientists have achieved substantial progresses in the field of polymer physics and characterization. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, some examples of concept breakthrough, theory development and technique innovation were introduced to motivate the creativity of young generation for a better tomorrow.     The fundamental contributions from Chinese scientists in eco-polymers were summarized, such as poly(lactic acid)s, poly(hydroxyalkanoate)s, amino acid based polymers, poly(1,4-dioxan-2-one), CO2 copolymers, bio-based elastomers, 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid based polyesters, and cellulose derivatives, and a perspective on their futures is provided.     This paper summarizes the significant contributions to polymer synthetic chemistry made by Chinese scholars since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and anticipates a bright future in the development of various polymerization reactions, control of polymer topology as well as design, synthesis and polymerization of monomers from biomass sources.
