CAS Building Equity Sold to OSU The Ohio State University has agreed to purchase for $488,000 the Society's equity in its present Chemical Ab- stracts Service Building on the OSU campus in Columbus, Ohio. The sum was authorized by the OSU trustees and approved by the ACS Board of Directors at its Dec. 5 meeting. CAS is scheduled to begin moving early next year into the new $6.8 mil- lion headquarters. The new building is nearing completion on a 50-acre tract adjoining the northwest edge of the campus (C&EN, April 15, 1963, page 134). The present structure, which was financed jointly by OSU and the ACS, was completed to the third floor in 1955, and a fourth level was added in 1960. A second building, also on the OSU campus, was leased in 1961 to house the CAS R&D division. In 1963, the fast-growing operation over- flowed into temporary quarters on the new building site. The first unit scheduled to move into the new headquarters is data processing operations, now located in the R&D division building. Discounts on Foreign Journals Offered Mutual discount arrangements be- tween ACS and four foreign chemical societies have been renewed for 1965, enabling ACS members to get many foreign publications at lower than base rates. The Chemical Society (London) offers its publications to ACS members at a 10% discount. They are Chem- istry in Britain (a new publication incorporating the Proceedings of the Chemical Society and the Journal of the Royal Institute of Chemistry), the Journal of the Chemical Society and Chemistry in Britain (combined sub- scription), Chemical Communica- tions, Current Chemical Tapers, Quarterly Reviews, and the Annual Reports on the Progress of Chemistry, 1964 (to be published in mid-1965). Additional subscription information is available from Dr. J. R. Ruck Keene, General Secretary, The Chemical So- ciety (London), Burlington House, London, W. I. England. ACS members may subscribe to The Transactions of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, the official organ of the institution, at a 20% discount. Inquiries should be sent to R. Mason, Assistant Secretary, The Institution of Chemical Engineers, 16 Belgrave Square, London, S. W. I., England. Two journals published by the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society are available to ACS members at a 10% discount. They are the monthly Recueil des travaux chimiques des Pays-Bas (written mostly in English) and the weekly Chemisch Weekblad. Details may be obtained from Dr. W. F. Haak, Secretary, Koninklijke Nederlandse Chemische Vereniging, Burnierstraat 1, Postrekening 7680, Gravenhage, The Netherlands. The German Chemical Society of- fers Angewandte Chemie, Angewandte Chemie (International Edition in English ), Chemie-Ingenieur-Technik, Nachrichten aus Chemie und Technik, and Chemische Berichte to ACS mem- bers at a 10% discount. Dr. Ing. R. Wolf, Gesellschaft Deutscher Chem- iker, Postschliebfach 9075, Frankfurt (Main), West Germany, can provide additional information. All discounts on the foreign publi- cations apply only to the nonmember (base) rates. ACS journals (except publications of GAS) are available to members of the European societies at a 10% discount from the base rate. DEC. 28, 1964 C&EN 45

CAN YOU MEET THIS CHALLENGE IN

CHEMICAL ENGINEERING?

Position: Project Engineers Group Leaders

Fields of Work: New methods of sewage and industrial waste disposal Electrochemical devices Hydrogen production Chemical-Mechanical Systems, design and development

Type of Work: Applied Research where new technical developments are extended into working systems. In some instances this will require fo l lowing the development through pilot plant tests.

You will be expected to take charge of a project or group of projects and supervise their development from inception to comple t ion . If you feel you can accept this responsibility, then we would like to talk to you.

Locations: You will step into a medium sized fast growing chemical process section of the Research Division. Allis-Chalmers is a comparative new-comer in the chemical engineering field, but is presently expending the effort necessary to become a recognized firm in the field.

Resignation Deadline Approaches No resignation from members of the ACS can be accepted after Dec. 31; this deadline is specified by ACS Bylaw I, Sec. 6 and no exceptions can be made. It is hoped that every 1964 member will continue in 1965. If impossible, resignation in good standing will avoid future complications; appropriate notice should be submitted to the Office of the Executive Secretary at once. Simply to ignore the dues bill does not constitute resignation.
