PharmacologicalActions• Formostclinicalpurposes,syntheticglucocorticoidsareusedbecausetheyhaveahigheraffinityforthereceptor,arelessactivatedandhavelittleornosalt-retainingproperties.

• Hydrocortisone usedfor:orallyforreplacementtherapy,i.v.forshockandasthma,topicallyforeczema(ointment)andenemas(ulcerativecolitis).

• Prednisolone themostwidelyuseddruggivenorallyininflammationandallergicdiseases.

PharmacologicalActions• Betamethasoneanddexamethasone:verypotent,w/osalt-retainingproperties;thus,veryusefulforhigh-dosetherapies(e.g.,cerebraledemas).

• Beclometasone,diproprionate,budesonide:passmembranespoorly;moreactivewhenappliedtopically(severeeczemaforlocalanti-inflammatoryeffects)thanorally;usedinasthma,(aerosol).

• Triamcinolone:usedforsevereasthmaandforlocaljointinflammation(intra-articularinj.).
