A general method for the synthesis of 1-(α-arylalkyl)benzotriazoles is presented involving the reaction of chlorides such as (I) or (IV) with arylmagnesium bromides. In the case of thienyl derivative (VI) isomerization to the 2-benzotriazolyl derivative (VII) is observed.
