    The participants of this course will be introduced to various current issues in sport. They will learn and discuss about a variety of topics and be asked to present on a particular issue of their choice. Topics will include: Drugs in Sport, Obesity and Physical Activity, Politics in Sport, Technological Advances in Sport. Learning Outcomes. At the end of this course the participants will be able to: 1. Have a basic understanding on a variety of current issues in sport 2. Present a topic of their choice exhibiting deeper understanding of the issues. Pre-requisite: Introduction to Sport Sciences

    Instructor: Menelas Siafakas, MSc. has worked at the University of the West of Scotland as a lecturer in Sport Science and Sport Psychology since 1997.He has worked as a sport psychologist with many elite athletes and worked with the Scottish National Netball Squad in their preparation for the World Championship in 2007. He is a member of the British Association of Sport Sciences and has presented his work at various international conferences.

    This course gives students the linguistic competence needed to pass college entrance tests and to meet academic requirements. This is an intensive approach that is specifically designed to improve students overall language skills (receptive and productive) and to give them an opportunity to familiarize themselves with academic tasks, texts and tests. Students will engage in real academic tasks such as:

    XXXEEE 000333777333 CCCOOONNNVVVEEERRRSSSAAATTTIIIOOONNNAAALLL EEENNNGGGLLLIIISSSHHH Develop oral English-language skills needed in informal everyday situations, some of which include social contacts, travel, money and shopping, hobbies, art and culture, entertainment, fitness and sports, nutrition and health etc.

    This English Conversation course is designed for low intermediate to intermediate English language level students to help them learn how to organize their thoughts and converse in a more natural way. It provides the participants with the linguistic background to use sets of phrases and expressions necessary to carry out conversations in everyday communication.

    Students will engage in role playing and will have the opportunity to become confident in expressing opinions, interrupting, showing interest among other functions and oral skills. An opportunity to brush up on grammar and vocabulary skills essential for effective communication will also be made possible.

    Location: Downtown Campus

    Time: Thursdays 3-5pm

    15 meetings/30hrs total
