Rand D Arbaprostil: is ineffective at healing duodenal ulcers at a cytoprotective dose of 1 OOflQ daily In a random1sed double-bltnd study, 94 evaluable pat1ents w1th endoscopically confirmed duodenal ulcers rece1ved the prostaglandin arbaprostil [CU 83, U 42842: Upjohn)j 25,ug q1d (n = 47) or placeoo (n = 47) for 1 month. After 14 days. 16 pat1ents 1n each group showed complete of duodenal ulcers Healing rates at Week 4 were 69 2 and 604% for arbaprostil and placebo recipients respectively (not s1gn1ficant). 19% of patients who rece1ved arbaprostil had 2-4 bowel movements/day compared w1th 10.6% 1n the placebo-treated group (not stgn1f1cant). It was concluded that a cytoprotective dose of 25,ug qid of arbaprostil with minimal antisecretory propert1es was not effective 1n the treatment of patients w1th duodenal ulcers Wengrower D.
