Faculty Sentiments
It what was an amazingly challenging year, I am so proud of the work that everyone has done. You have continued to help your patients, colleagues, and the community.
Thank you for your commitment to making the world a better place for everyone. ~ Joseph McNamara, PhD
To all the Graduates,
Congratulations on achieving this momentous milestone in your career! Though the past few months have been unusual in many ways, with unprecedented challenges
and need for adaptability, hopefully you have used the experience as an opportunity for personal growth. As you reflect on your time at UFCOM, I hope you will carry with
you fond memories of your faculty and peers, that you will continue to think of yourself as an enduring part of the Gator Nation, and that you will remember to take
care of yourselves, your families, and your colleagues, as well as your patients. We are proud of each of you and wish you all the best in the next phase of your journey!
Go Gators! Cheers!
~ Lisa Merlo, PhD
Congratulations to all of the graduates of 2020! You have been an incredible class as a group and are amazing health care providers. The OCD program will miss you, as
will I. Go out and prosper! All the best,
~ Carol Mathews, MD and the OCD program.
I want to extend a hearty congratulations to all of the graduates! You will always have a special place in my heart and I hope we stay in touch through the years.
~ Jody Brown, MD
Dear Tarik, Jonathan, Jessica, Ashley, Nick, and Danielle, CONGRATULATIONS and lots of well wishes for a long, fulfilling career in psychiatry!
~ Mariam Rahmani, MD
Dear Tian, Stephanie, and Suraj, Wishing you the best in your child training!
~ Mariam Rahmani, MD
Dear KC, Casey, and George, I look forward to working closely with you starting in July. It will be great!
~ Mariam Rahmani, MD
Dear Hannah, Meghan, Faryal, Samar, and Josh, Your hard work, professionalism, and kindness has made this year, despite COVID, a good one. I am glad you will remain part of our program for another exciting year!
~ Mariam Rahmani, MD
Ashley B. Bindshedler, DO
Ashley, from the moment we interviewed you, I knew your athletic background would be a real asset. Great job as chief especially during COVID! Your can-do spirit
and sense of humor will truly be missed. We’ll miss your little family too 😊😊 ~ Jacqueline Hobbs, MD, PhD
What a pleasure you’ve been to work with- calm under fire, wonderful sense of
humor, incredible maturity; and what an outstanding job as chief- esp on recruitment- wonderful insights- right on point with just a touch of humor! You will
be sorely missed- both by me and Dali. ~ Robert Averbuch, MD
Danielle Rollie Brown, DO
Danielle, what a natural! It’s like you were born a psychiatrist. I hope that we taught you at least a little 😊😊 Great job as outpatient chief! You and your family will be
missed. ~ Jacqueline Hobbs, MD, PhD
Personality Plus Plus!!! Loved the playful banter during med check and your always
“down-to-earth”, rational approach to solving problems. Killer job with the outpatient clinic; mature beyond your years. You will be sorely missed, though I’ll
never admit it 😊😊 ~ Robert Averbuch, MD
Jonathan David Browning, MD
Jonathan, you get the checklist/journal assignment award 😊😊…always so well done. I really enjoyed watching you grow as a psychodynamic psychotherapist. You are a
gentle soul. We’ll miss you. ~ Jacqueline Hobbs, MD, PhD
Simply put- wonderful clinician and person- so receptive to feedback and so very
genuine in all interactions. Love the sense of humor too!!!! - esp the “modifications” you’ve made to my office and emotional support staff (ie, Dali Llama).
~ Robert Averbuch, MD
Jessica Marie Khan, MD Jessica, or should I say, Teacher, we have benefitted significantly from your Resident
as Teacher program and your ethics sessions. Big shoes to fill! Great job as chief especially during COVID! We’ll miss you.
~ Jacqueline Hobbs, MD, PhD
Such dedication to your patients and your work in administration and scholarship- really admirable! Thanks for your flexibility and willingness to work with us old folks
during tele-COVID. And did I mention you’re a great writer and presenter? The future looks very bright at Duke- if not, there’s always karaoke to fall back on 😊😊
~ Robert Averbuch, MD
Congratulations! You are officially a grownup, and on your way from Mulaney to Colbert.
~ Michael Shapiro, MD
Tarik Ahmad Ksaibati, DO Tarik, you literally grew up before our eyes. You challenged us to be better. Great job
as outpatient chief! You will be missed. ~ Jacqueline Hobbs, MD, PhD
I don’t know of anyone that’s grown into the clinician role more than you- in both
confidence and ability. Incredibly calm and even-tempered in the face of almost any stress. What a wonderful sense of humor- really enjoyed the back-and-forth and
biting sarcasm- it’s a testament to your maturity that you got the brunt of it. ~ Robert Averbuch, MD
Once you started speaking up, it was really great hearing what you had to say. Thank
you. ~ Michael Shapiro, MD
Nicholas Brandon Martinez, MD
Nick, I always smile when I think of you. Your hard work and dedication to patient care are truly appreciated. Thanks for stopping by to ask questions from time to time.
You won’t be too far away. Don’t be a stranger. ~ Jacqueline Hobbs, MD, PhD
I’ve told you this already, but your presentation style has really grown on me and you’ve become one of my absolute favorites to staff with. Love your dedication to
your patients and efficiency too. It’s been so great having you in Med Check and After Hours Clinic- you will be sorely missed!
~ Robert Averbuch, MD
Sarah Andrews, MD Dear Sarah,
Your kindness and objectivity will be missed and not to mention your creative games for Raising Hope!
~ Mariam Rahmani, MD
I am going to miss Sarah! Affable, mature, optimistic, compassionate, reliable and hard-working …those are qualities that have and will continue to serve Dr. Andrews well throughout her career and life. Sarah has developed into a wonderful child and adolescent psychiatrist. Her diverse background and life experiences have forged a
unique perspective that will definitely help her patients and their families. As co-chief fellow this year, her leadership skills have been on display and have helped move us
forward. I am hopeful that we continue to work together in some fashion as she pursues additional training in addiction. Regardless, I wish her all the best in the
future and I hope she stays in touch! ~ Jody Brown, MD
Alison Larson, DO Dear Alison,
I will miss seeing you at 7:30am for 8am lectures! Thank you for your insights and input as co-chief.
~ Mariam Rahmani, MD
Where do I start with Ali? I’m not sure who has been the supervisor between us over the last couple of years! Thank you for all of your education and advice! I think I
speak for the entire child division when I say that we are going to miss Ali. She has been an absolute pleasure to work with and supervise. She is a hard-working,
responsive and empathic physician who is a strong advocate for her patients. Dr. Larson is patient-centric, solution-oriented, mature, handles difficult situations deftly and appropriately, and an independent thinker who has served as a wonderful liaison as chief fellow. Her efforts as chief fellow have definitely helped our child fellowship
navigate some challenging times (enter COVID, etc.) and flourish. She can demonstrate a tough Jersey exterior when needed… but her core is one of a kind,
loving and altruistic soul. I am stoked to have such a wonderful child and adolescent psychiatrist join our ranks! On a personal note, my wife and I were fortunate enough to attend her wedding. Her delightful friends and family help explain the wonderful
person she is! I wish her all the best in the future and I hope she stays in touch! ~ Jody Brown, MD
Jaison Nainaparampil, MD Dear Jaison,
As a CAP and colleague, you are a 10. (8 or higher, Bro!). All the best,
~ Mariam Rahmani, MD
Jaison…what can I say about Jaison Nainaparampil? Butchering his name with a southern accent didn’t sound pretty in the beginning! We met a couple of times
during his first couple of years here at UF but I really got to know Jaison during his 3rd year child psychiatry outpatient clinic rotation. We had both lived in Dayton, OH
… so we had that in common, which served to open my first in-depth conversation with Jaison about his future aspirations. What I would come to learn is that
conversation with Jaison is easy and I could see that he would be an excellent child and adolescent psychiatrist before he expressed interest. His highly evolved
interpersonal skillset has and will always serve him well. He is hard-working, dedicated, and empathic, establishes excellent rapport. It has been a distinct pleasure
for me to watch his personal and professional growth over the last 4+ years and I have no doubt Jaison will be a wonderful child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist
throughout his career and am pleased to officially welcome him as a colleague. I wish him all the best in the future and I hope he stays in touch!
~ Jody Brown, MD
Joshua Proemsey, MD Never forget the immortal words of Magnitude. "Pop pop!"
~Michael Shapiro, MD
Faryal Mallick, MD Congrats on obtaining another achievement. Please stop now!
~Michael Shapiro, MD
Thank you all for a wonderful year!
