yesmilk is a natural antacid and it really works! Also ice cream and yogurt work really well. Milk worked really well for me when I had horrible acid reflux at the end of my pregnancy.

When calcium supplements are taken with food they act as antacids as well.

Carrots and fresh ginger

I believe people will add a carrot in anything cooked with tomatoes or lemon to

neutralize the acidity.

In India, people use fresh ginger or ginger extract as a remedy.

I am sure there are herbs and seasings that also help minimize acid reflex and heartburn. In Ayurveda, there are number of antural plants and herbs that are used for this. Not a 100% sure, but cumin seeds are used to reduce gas when eating beans, lentils and legumes.

Will have to call my aunt or mom and get a list of things. I will post more in the discussion as I find out other items. Thanks for a wonderful question.

Heart burn and acid reflex are due to low stomach acid. I take HCl and enzymes when I eat. I also take...lemon juice when I eat. Some people take apple cider vinegar 2 tsp with a meal. I am celiac and it destroys the cells that make HCl to digest food. Tums is the opposite of what is good and have Al in it. You want to increase the acid.

I have this problem, too,and I have found that drinking a glass of milk can help, especially if you catch your heartburn before it gets too bad. Hope this helps! Sign in to report abuse or send a compliment j_bax 48 months ago

In my opinion bread works the best since it absorbs liquids while passing through esophagus. Tums work only temporary and your stomach will produce even more acid to compensate for them - milk will do trick simlar to Tums. I would just drink some water to dilute acid. Below are two lists related to food and heartburn. Food and pH (acidity) http://manageyourheartburn.com/food-acidity.php Food causing/not causing heartburn - compiled by random folks http://manageyourheartburn.com/hblist.php Increase Fiber: A high fiber diet has been known to decrease heartburn for many people. You can get a high fiber diet by eating fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, and vegetables. If you haven't had luck with the high fiber diet or you don't want to change your diet that drastically, there are some other choices that might work better for you. A Banana a Day: Bananas are considered to be a natural antacid food. A banana a day keeps the heartburn away for some people. On the other hand bananas are considered to be high in potassium so if you are already on a potassium supplement, you should consult your doctor before changing your diet. Live Cultured Yogurt: Another natural antacid food is yogurt. Yogurt is one of the recommended foods if you have heartburn problems when you are sleeping. The live cultures of the yogurt help support the digestive tract with healthy bacteria to assist in breakdown of food. Ice Cream: Ice cream is also a natural antacid food and also should be eaten 2 hours before bedtime for people who suffer from nighttime heartburn. When eating ice cream, you need to be careful about what flavor you eat. Chocolate and peppermint can weaken the lower esophageal sphincter muscle (LES) that is supposed to keep the stomach acid from backing up into the esophagus. A soothing vanilla or dolce de leche ice cream works great for most people. Milk: If the natural antacid relieving foods mentioned above don't help you, milk is considered a natural antacid drink. A glass of milk before bed can soothe the stomach as well as cool the esophagus. The problem with this is if you have a weak LES muscle, as soon as you lay down some of the stomach acid will seep back into your esophagus or regurgitate. The other side of the issue is to make certain you don't have an allergy to dairy products, in which case you may see additional discomfort with the use of dairy. Ch Most people who have heartburn suffer from mild to sever flare ups of acid reflux. Level of severity can depend on how severe your acid overproduction is or on what foods triggered t
