We think that disturbed vitamins metabolism and disturbed liver functions are significant

as ari endogenous cause of some skin diseases We wish to discuss the results of in咽

vestigations carried out in our clinic which support our views on this point

Clinically deficiency in vitamins is apt to cause dermatoses lactic acid tends to

accumulate in the skinwhere oxygen consumption is lower than in any other organand

glycolysis is comparatively active So we think that TCA cyc1e tends to become abnormal

causing disturbance in vitamins metabolism in skin diseasesas shown in Figl amp Tab 1

Therefore special attention should be paid to vitaminsespecially vitamin Bcomplex

Fig 1 shows schema of TCA cyc1e at left side and carbon-dioxide

formation (glycolysis) and oxygen consumption of the skin at

right side Experiments show that oxygen consumption of the

skin is less compared with other organswhi1e carbon-dioxide

formation is relatively high These data means that TCA

cyc1e activity is relatively low in the skin

which concerned in TCA cycle as shown in Fig 2 Fig 3 shows the amounts of are

thiamine riboflavin and lipoic acid in the skin estimated in our clinic

We assumed that vitamin B-complex would play one of the important role in some skin

diseases This assumption has been validated by the results of tests for metabolism of

thiamine riboavinand pyridoxine carried out in various skin diseases 自

Tab 2 shows the results of tests for thiamine metabolism carried out in 560 cases of

part of the skin It is also of interest that the findings of gastric juiceeye and blood in

inany of these patients were near1y the same as the findings in patients with pellagra as

shown in Tab 4

the results of tests for riboflavin levels and their relation to skin diseases in 317 patients

and Tab 7 gives the results of similar tests on pyrodoxine It is strange there should be

no disturbance of pyridoxine metabolism in the so-called seborrheic dermatitis

The results of experiments shown so far indicate that there is a disturbance of meta-

bolism of vitamin B-complex in a large proportion of patients with eczema dermatitis

erythroderma lupus erythematodes disseminatus and psoriasis In fact adminiatration of

vitamin Bcomplex has had effects in these patients In Tab 8--9 are listed the skin 同

diseases in which vitamins may be used with some effects

The relation between liver function and skin diseases has attracted the attention of

various investigators Disturbed liver function tends to lead to disturbed metabolism of

vitamins Sothe relation between the two cannot be overlooked

Tob 10-11 show the relation of thiamine and ribo自avinto liver function It will be

seen that liver function is related to metabolic disturbence of thiamine and ribofiavin

the results of tests for riboflavin levels and their relation to skin diseases in 317 patients

and Tab 7 gives the results of similar tests on pyrodoxine It is strange there should be

no disturbance of pyridoxine metabolism in the so-called seborrheic dermatitis

The results of experiments shown so far indicate that there is a disturbance of meta-

bolism of vitamin B-complex in a large proportion of patients with eczema dermatitis

erythroderma lupus erythematodes disseminatus and psoriasis In fact adminiatration of

vitamin Bcomplex has had effects in these patients In Tab 8--9 are listed the skin 同

diseases in which vitamins may be used with some effects
