  • The first step in learning to read Byzantine music is to become familiar with its solfege system. The names for the notes in this system in ascending order are: Nee, Pa, Vou, Ga, Dee, Ke, Zo, Nee. (This corresponds to the notes in Western music: Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, Do.)
