Antigoni Kamberou

GREECE-TURKEY: ALLIANCES-DIVORCES

An approach of the Greek-Turkish relations with regards to the Law of the Sea

Saturday 14 November 2015 at 7.30 pm

The presentation will be in Greek

This presentation will focus on the issues which concern the two odd

partners/allies i.e Greece and Turkey. We will explain terms used extensively by

the media which are not familiar to the wider public.

What is the definition of the continental shelf ? What does it mean “violation of the

Athens FIR” ? What is the delimitation of the territorial sea waters, EEZ (exclusive

economic zone), the delimitation of the Greek air space? What is the status of theislands and the islets? What does the New Law of the Sea stipulate? What defines

the 6, 10 or 12 miles? Why do we not file a lawsuit in the Hague International

Court of Justice? Why Turkey calls the Aegean, a “Greek lake”?

What would the “co-management” of the Aegean by both parties at this point

mean? What kind of problems would such a solution bring? What other issues

would entail?



The presenter

Antigoni Kamberou was born in Athens, daughter of Evangelos Kamberos,

solicitor and a well known literary figure in Piraeus. She studied English, German

and Italian literature at the Glasgow and Hamburg Universities and completed her

postgraduate studies at the European Institute at the University of Geneva on the

Greek-Turkish differences on the international maritime law. Her Ph.D focused on

aspects of European culture. She taught English, German and Greek in Geneva and

after her return to Greece, she taught European Studies at Panteion University and

English terminology at the Kapodistrian University.

She appears as a writer for the first time with her book on the life of the early

Greek aviator D.Kamberos.” Dimitrios Kamberos, “the mad Kamberos”, the life of

the first Greek military aviator”
